Deodorant sales increase overview:ย

  • Who: Unilever and Procter & Gamble both revealed in recent earnings reports that their deodorant sales have increased.ย
  • Why: The reported rise in deodorant sales coincides with a growing number of workers being asked by their employer to return to working in the office.ย
  • Where: The deodorant sales increase takes into account consumers nationwide.ย

Deodorant sales have increased in the wake of companies mandating their employees return to the office, as part of a shift away from work-from-home policies that were put in place during the pandemic.ย

Global consumer goods company Unilever, the maker of Dove, Rexona and Impulse deodorant, revealed in its latest earnings report that deodorant sales have increased by 15% amid a return to the office, reports the New York Post.ย

Procter & Gamble, meanwhile, which makes Old Spice and Secret brand deodorant, reported a sales increase of 9% for grooming products and a 5% increase for beauty products during the first quarter of fiscal year 2024.ย

All-in-all, deodorant sales are currently among the fastest growing for self-care products in the industry, reports The Wall Street Journal, with Unilever telling the newspaper its customers in the US will use two different kinds of deodorants every week on average.ย

โ€œYou wake up, brush your teeth, and put deodorant on,โ€ Unilever USA President Esi Eggleston said, as reported by The Wall Street Journal.

Increase in deodorant sales coincides with workers being asked to return to the office

The reported increase in deodorant sales coincides with a growing desire by companies to have their employees return to working in the office, reports the New York Post.ย

Recently released data from Gallup, meanwhile, revealed only 29% of workers who are capable of doing their jobs from home are working completely remote, with 52% of employees who fall into that category operating under a hybrid model.ย

The number is lower than what was seen at the height of the pandemic in May 2020, with 70% of workers who were capable of working from home doing so and only 18% of similarly situated employees operating on a hybrid schedule, reports the New York Post.ย

A shift back to working in the office is in line with pre-pandemic numbers, however, when less than one out of 10 individuals were reportedly hybrid.ย

In other news involving deodorant, a class action lawsuit was filed against Lume Deodorant in May by a consumer arguing the company falsely advertises the effectiveness of its deodorant product.ย
