Several popular companies, retailers and manufacturers announced recalls last week for products that may pose a risk of injury to consumers. Here are Top Class Actions’ top recalls for the week of Jan. 8.

Fratelli Beretta recalls charcuterie meat sampler due to salmonella 

Fratelli Beretta USA issued a recall for 11,097 pounds of Bussetto Foods Charcuterie Samplers due to potential contamination with salmonella. 

The affected meat products include the Busseto Foods Charcuterie Sampler Prosciutto, Sweet Sopressata and Dry Coppa, identifiable by lot code L075330300 and best-by date April 27, 2024. Sold as a twin pack with two 9-ounce packages, the packaging bears establishment No. 7543B inside the USDA mark of inspection and establishment No. 47967 with the lot and code numbers.

Fratelli Beretta has not disclosed any reports of illnesses linked to the recall, and there is currently no legal action against the company. Consumers can contact the Busseto Recall hotline at 866-552-4916 for more information. 

Homedics massagers recalled due to overheating risk

Homedics initiated a recall for approximately 46,000 Therapist Select Percussion Personal Massagers Jan. 4, citing concerns about potential overheating issues during charging that could pose fire and burn hazards. 

The recall extends to approximately 41,000 massagers sold in Canada and specifically involves HoMedics Therapist Select Massagers in black, featuring model No. HHP-715 and a date code ending in 20, 21 or 22.

Consumers should stop using or charging the affected massagers immediately and reach out to Homedics at 800-466-3342 or through the company’s website for either a full product refund or Homedics credit. The company reported 17 instances of the recalled massagers overheating, with one incident resulting in a burn on a consumer’s thumb.

Salm Partners recalls turkey kielbasa due to bone contamination

Salm Partners issued a recall encompassing more than 133,000 pounds of ready-to-eat turkey kielbasa products due to potential contamination with bone fragments. 

The recall includes ready-to-eat turkey kielbasa products bearing the label “Parkview Turkey Polska Kielbasa” and featuring establishment No. P-32009. 

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) reported one minor oral injury associated with the recalled turkey kielbasa products, along with customer complaints regarding the discovery of bone fragments in the product. 

Consumers should not consume the recalled items and should either dispose of them or return them to the place of purchase.

Hyundai recalls Kona vehicles due to battery cable issue

Hyundai announced a recall affecting 10,984 of its 2024 Kona vehicles equipped with 1.6T-GDI engines, citing concerns about a battery cable issue that may lead to engine compartment fires. 

The recall specifically addresses the potential for damage to the positive Kona 12-volt battery cable in the event of a frontal crash, which could result in an electrical short that could result in a fire. The recall affects vehicles produced from June 19 to Dec. 18, 2023.

Indicators of a battery issue include smoke from the engine compartment and a burning or melting odor. While Hyundai has not disclosed any reports of injuries associated with the recall, the company is not facing legal action. 

To address the concern, Hyundai dealers will install protective sheathing on the affected wiring. Vehicle owners should contact Hyundai at 800-633-5151. Hyundai will notify dealers and owners Feb. 23. Owners will need to bring their vehicles to a dealer for protective sheathing installation over the 12-volt positive (B+) and alternator wiring connected to the junction block in the engine compartment. 

Benny T’s Vesta Dry Hot Sauces recalled due to undeclared wheat

Benny T’s initiated a recall for various types and lots of its Vesta Dry Hot Sauces due to the presence of undeclared wheat in the products. 

The North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services identified the issue during testing, notifying the company Jan. 4 that the flour mentioned on the label does not specify wheat flour. The affected 1.5-ounce glass jars of Vesta Dry Hot Sauce include Ghost, Hot, Reaper, Scorpion and Very Hot varieties with corresponding UPC codes. 

Distributed Oct. 1, 2023, through Jan. 4, 2024, the Vesta recall encompasses hot sauces primarily sold online, in retail stores and in deli cases across the United States. Although Vesta has not received any reports of illnesses related to the recall, it emphasizes the potential danger for individuals with wheat allergies, as consuming wheat unknowingly can lead to severe or life-threatening allergic reactions.
