Global Pharma Healthcare recalls eye drops due to adverse health effects
On Feb. 2, the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) published a recall notice on its website for all lots of Global Health Healthcare Artificial Tears Lubricant Eye Drops. The company received 55 reports of adverse events related to the eye drops, including eye infections, permanent loss of vision and death.
The CDC observed a multistate cluster of Verona Integron-mediated Metallo-β-lactamase (VIM)- and Guiana-Extended Spectrum-β-Lactamase (GES)-producing carbapenem-resistant pseudomonas aeruginosa (VIM-GES-CRPA) infections, it says.
Global Pharma Healthcare notified the distributors of the product, Aru Pharma Inc. and Delsam Pharma, and requested that wholesalers, retailers and customers who have the recalled product stop using it immediately.
Fabuloso multipurpose cleaners recalled due to bacterial contamination
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission website posted a recall Feb. 8 that applies to about 4.9 million units of Fabuloso multipurpose cleaning products in the United States and 56,000 units in Canada.
The affected products can contain pseudomonas species bacteria, including pseudomonas aeruginosa and pseudomonas fluorescens, all of which can cause serious infections. In particular, people with weakened immune systems, external medical devices or underlying lung conditions who are exposed to the bacteria face a risk of serious infection that may require medical treatment. The bacteria can enter the body through the nose, eyes or a break in the skin, the recall notice states.
The recall includes Fabuloso multipurpose cleaners with lot codes that start with 2348US78 through 2365US78 and 30001US78 through 3023US78. Consumers can file a list of the UPC and lot codes of the recalled products at fabulosorecall.com.
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled Fabuloso multipurpose cleaner products and contact Colgate-Palmolive for a full refund or a free replacement.
B&G Foods recalls Back to Nature Fudge Mint Cookies due to peanut contamination.
On Feb. 1, the FDA published a recall on its website for three cases of B&G Foods Back to Nature Fudge Mint Cookies as they may be contaminated with peanuts. The 18 individual boxes are 6.4 oz. and have a “best-by” date of Oct. 2, 2023.
B&G initiated the recall after a third-party ingredient supplier notified it that an ingredient was contaminated with peanut, which was an allergen not declared on the cookie box label, the company says. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to peanuts run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume the cookies.
No allergic reactions have been reported so far, but B&G encourages consumers who are allergic to peanuts to not eat the product and return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.
Various imported children’s robes sold on Amazon recalled due to flammability risk
A number of companies recently issued recalls on children’s pajama and robe products after the clothing items failed to meet federal flammability standards. Around 10,350 children’s robes were recalled in total, which were imported by SGMWVB, ChildLikeMe, Betusline Official Apparel and BTPEIHTD.
Paper Cape, meanwhile, recalled around 5,720 units of its children’s pajamas after they also failed to meet federal flammability standards for children’s sleepwear.
Volkswagen recalls ID.4 electric vehicles due to potential stalling
On Feb. 1, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) posted a recall for 20,904 of Volkswagen’s 2021 ID.4 vehicles.
Volkswagen initiated the recall after it found that certain 2021 ID.4 vehicles have defective software programming that may cause the cars’ high voltage battery management control modules to restart or the pulse inverters to deactivate. If the control module resets while driving, the vehicle’s electric motor will not receive power for the duration of the reset, which may increase the risk of a crash.
Dealers will update the HV battery management control unit and the pulse inverter control unit software for drivers of the recalled vehicles free of charge, according to the VW recall notice.
