Fabuloso multipurpose cleaners recall overview:

  • Who: Colgate-Palmolive recalled nine Fabuloso multipurpose cleaning products.
  • Why: The  products may contain pseudomonas species bacteria.
  • Where: The Fabuloso multipurpose cleaners recall is active in the United States and Canada.

Colgate-Palmolive has issued a recall on millions of Fabuloso multipurpose cleaning products as they may contain bacteria that can cause serious infections.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission website posted the recall Feb. 8. It applies to about 4.9 million units of the products in the United States and about 56,000 in Canada.

According to the recall, the affected products can contain pseudomonas species bacteria, including pseudomonas aeruginosa and pseudomonas fluorescens.

“People with weakened immune systems, external medical devices or underlying lung conditions who are exposed to the bacteria face a risk of serious infection that may require medical treatment,” the Fabuloso recall states.

The bacteria can enter the body through the nose, eyes or a break in the skin. People with healthy immune systems are usually not affected by the bacteria, the company says.

No infections related to the recalled products have been reported to date, Colgate-Palmolive says. It is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled Fabuloso multipurpose cleaner products, company says

The cleaning products were sold online at amazon.com, other websites, and at Dollar General, Family Dollar, The Home Depot, Sam’s Club, Walmart and other major retailers nationwide from December 2022 through January 2023 for between $1 and $11.

The recall includes Fabuloso multipurpose cleaners with lot codes that start with 2348US78 through 2365US78 and 30001US78 through 3023US78. Consumers can file a list of the UPC and lot codes of the recalled products at fabulosorecall.com

Fabuloso antibacterial variants or other Fabuloso products are not impacted by the recall, the company states.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled Fabuloso multipurpose cleaner products and contact Colgate-Palmolive for a full refund or a free replacement, the Fabuloso recall states.

To receive a refund or replacement, consumers should take a picture of the product’s UPC and lot code and dispose of the product in its container with household trash. Do not empty the product before disposing of it, the Fabuloso recall states.

Colgate-Palmolive Co. is also facing a class action lawsuit alleging it falsely advertised certain products as “natural” when they contain synthetic ingredients.
