Target has initiated a recall of nearly 5 million candles as they pose a laceration and burn hazard.

The recall was published to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission website May 18. It applies to about 4.9 million Threshold Glass Jar 5.5-ounce one-wick, 14-ounce three-Wick, and 20-ounce three-wick candles in multiple scents that can be seen on the CPSC website

The recalled item numbers are printed on the bottom of the glass jars.

According to the recall, the candle’s jar can crack or break during use, posing laceration and burn hazards.

So far, Target has received 137 reports of the candle jar breaking or cracking during use. Six injuries have been reported, including lacerations and severe burns.

The company is not facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.

Immediately stop using the candles

The recalled candles were sold at Target stores nationwide and at target.com from August 2019 through March 2023 for between $3 and $20.

“Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled candles and return them to any Target store for a full refund or contact Target to receive a prepaid return label to return the candles by mail,” the recall states.

In March, Star Soap Star Candle Prayer Candle recalled more than 1.2 million Mainstays candles sold exclusively at Walmart as they can burn too close to the side of the container, causing the glass to break and leading to a fire.
