Rust-Oleum has recalled around 84,000 cans of its Rust-Oleum Professional Fluorescent Pink Inverted Marking Spray Paint over concerns the can’s spray valve assembly can detach with force, creating an impact injury hazard.

The recall, which was published by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission on Sept. 28, involves Rust-Oleum Professional Fluorescent Pink Marking Paint that was sold in a 15 oz. metal can with a lot code of either S34052 or S34054.

Rust-Oleum has received five reports of the spray valve assembly and plastic cap detaching with force from the recalled fluorescent pink spray paint product, causing paint to splatter, but no injuries, according to the Rust-Oleum recall.

Consumers have been advised to immediately stop using the recalled Rust-Oleum fluorescent pink spray paint and place it out of reach of children.

Rust-Oleum said consumers can receive a full refund for the recalled fluorescent pink spray paint cans by taking a picture of the cans — along with their data code — and contacting the company directly by email

The recalled Rust-Oleum fluorescent pink spray paint was sold for around $10 both online and nationwide at hardware stores such as Home Depot, Lowe’s, and Menards, among others, from April 2023 through July 2023.

Individuals with more questions about the recall can contact Rust-Oleum directly by telephone at 800-908-4050, by email, or online

A class action lawsuit was filed against Rust-Oleum in February by a consumer arguing the company sells paint-and-primer products that don’t actually work without also purchasing a primer.
