Suya Slice LLC recalled more than 400 pounds of ready-to-eat beef products in the United States as federal food safety regulators did not inspect the products.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA)’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) published the recall July 14. It applies to approximately 445 pounds of ready-to-eat beef jerky and marinated skewered beef products made between Oct. 16, 2021 and May 20, 2023.

The products are 1.5-ounce plastic resealable bag packages of beef jerky labeled “Suya Slice Kilishi Beef Jerky” and 5-ounce plastic resealable bag packages of marinated skewered beef labeled “Suya Slice Suya.”

According to the recall, the beef products were made without the benefit of federal inspection and do not bear the USDA mark of inspection.

There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of the products so far, the recall notice states. It is not facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes end in class action lawsuits.

Throw away product or return to place of purchase, beef recall states

FSIS discovered the problem when it followed up on a referral from the Illinois Department of Agriculture and found beef products at a retail location that did not have the USDA mark of inspection, the recall states. Upon further investigation, FSIS determined the products were not produced in an FSIS-inspected establishment.

Suya Slice shipped the beef products directly to customers via online sales and to retail locations nationwide, according to the recall notice.

“FSIS is concerned that some product may be in consumers’ pantries, refrigerators or freezers,” the recall states. “Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.”

Read-to-eat beef products have faced recalls before. Last year, for example, Magnolia Provision Company Inc. recalled approximately 497 pounds of beef jerky products that may have been contaminated with listeria monocytogenes.
