Mercedes-Benz has initiated a recall of more than 8,100 of its C300 and AMG C43 sedans due to a defect that can cause a loss of drive power.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website published the recall July 5. It applies to certain 2022-2023 C300 and 2023 AMG C43 vehicles.

According to the recall notice, the vehicles may contain an issue with the transmission wiring harness, which may be the incorrect length. This can result in harness damage and a loss of drive power, which can increase the risk of a crash.

The notice did not state whether there had been any incidents related to the defect so far. The company is not facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.

Dealers to provide free fix, Mercedes-Benz recall states

Dealers will inspect and repair the transmission wiring harness routing, as necessary, free of charge, the recall notice states. Mercedes-Benz expects to mail owner notification letters Aug. 29, 2023.ย ย

In other Mercedes-Benz news a consumer in March hit the automaker with a class action lawsuit alleging a range of Mercedes vehicles have a dangerous safety defect that can lead to a sudden and unexpected loss of control for drivers.ย
