Meijer salad recall overview:

  • Who: Meijer recalled 12 types of premade salads.
  • Why: The salads may be contaminated with listeria monocytogenes.
  • Where: The Meijer salad recall is active in the United States.

Meijer issued a recall on 12 types of premade salad products, as they have the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

The U.S. Food & Drug Administration website published the recall April 10. It applies to a dozen varieties of premade salads with a “Fresh From Meijer” sticker on a clear plastic container. The affected products can be seen here.

According to the notice, the recall is part of a broader Revolution Farms lettuce recall and includes premade salads carried at Meijer stores in Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, Ohio, Kentucky and Wisconsin.

Meijer is not aware of any illnesses from the salad products included in this recall, it says. The company is not facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.

Throw away product, Meijer salad recall states

Customers who purchased any of the recalled products should immediately throw them away, the company says.

Listeria monocytogenes is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people and others with weakened immune systems, according to the Meijer recall.

Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.

Consumers can request a full refund at the customer service desk of the nearest Meijer store.

In related news, Fresh Ideation Food Group in February recalled more than 400 ready-to-eat food products from retailers across multiple states as the products could potentially be contaminated with listeria monocytogenes.
