- Why: The product may be contaminated with listeria monocytogenes.
- Where: The Lidl shrimp recall is active across the United States.
Lidl issued a recall on containers of its Tapas-branded cocktail shrimp as the product may be contaminated with listeria monocytogenes.
The U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) website published the recall March 1. It applies to all units of the ready-to-eat Tapas branded Cocktail Shrimp by Lidl packaged in 7-ounce containers. Affected products will have a UPC of 4056489411499.
According to Lidl, it issued the shrimp recall as a result of routine testing, which revealed that the finished product contained the bacteria.
Listeria monocytogenes is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people and others with weakened immune systems.
“Lidl US has ceased the production and distribution of the product as we continue our investigation in conjunction with the FDA to resolve the issue,” the company says.
Lidl US received no reports or complaints of illness related to this product to date, it says. The company is not facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.
Consumers can return cocktail shrimp for a full refund, Lidl recall states
Lidl distributed the product to all Lidl US store locations, the shrimp recall states.
Lidl US has store locations in Delaware, District of Columbia, Georgia, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina and Virginia.
If customers purchased the recalled product, they should not consume it and immediately return it to their nearest Lidl store for a full refund, the recall states. No receipt is required.
“We have removed the affected products from our shelves, and we are asking all customers who have purchased this product to not consume it and return it to one of our stores for a full refund,” the Lidl recall states.
In December, Lidl US recalled its Favorina-branded advent calendar due to potential salmonella contamination in some of the calendar items.
