Lectric Ebikes announced a recall for 45,000 of its e-bicycles due to failing mechanical disc brake calipers on both the front and back of the bike.

If the brakes fail, it can result in a crash risk.ย

The Lectric Ebikes recall involves e-bicycle models XP 3.0 Black, XP 3.0 Long- Range Black, XP Step-Thru 3.0 Black, XP Step-Thru 3.0 White, XP Step-Thru 3.0 Long Range and XP Step-Thru 3.0 Long Range White. Customers can find the model name printed on the bikeโ€™s rear rack.

Lectric sold the e-bicycles on lectricebikes.com for between $1,000 and $1,200 from Nov. 2022 to May 2023, according to the Lectric Ebikes recall.

Consumers asked to stop using e-bicycles, contact Lectric Bikes for repair kit, recall says

Lectric Ebikes says it received four reports of loss of braking power with two reports of injury including cuts, scrapes and a broken bone. The company is not facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.

Customers should immediately stop using the e-bicycles and contact Lectric Bikes to receive a free mechanical caliper repair kit. The company will also provide up to $100 toward the cost to install the replacement front and rear mechanical brake calipers.

Lectric Ebikes will contact consumers who purchased the recalled e-bicycles directly. Consumers can also contact Lectric Ebikes at (877) 479-5422 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. ET Monday through Friday or online at lectricebikesrecall.expertinquiry.com/ or lectricebikes.com.

Another electric bike company, Jetson Electric Bikes, recently recalled more than 15,000 Nova and Star 3-Wheel Kick Childrenโ€™s Scooters as a wheel can fall off the scooter.ย

Purchased 2 of the Lectric bikes covered by the recall. Only problem we had was damage incurred during shipping. Lectric responded with replacement parts quickly. My husband and I have put many miles on them with no other concerns. We were notified by Lectric of the brake problem several months ago. New brakes have arrived and will be installed before our next adventure. Love the bikes and the customer service weโ€™ve received.

Electric Ebikes is now shipping the 3.0 with updated hydraulic brakes yet for the recall they are still providing mechanical brakes that are prone to fail again.

I havenโ€™t received anything yet from the company. I purchased a Lectric 3.0 XL step through in white during their memorial day sale. It was estimated to arrive in July then it was the end of July then it was beginning of August then the bike finally arrived 3rd week of August. I received only one notification after I emailed them on status that it was pushed out till August. Then I received notice that a shipping label or something had been prepared. My order says sent to shipping but the shipping company hadnโ€™t received anything. I was told it could take 10 days from date sent to shipper to ship. Whatever. The bike shows up. No manual provided or any kind of printed assembly instructions. Instead you have to scan QR code to get manual. I was so confused. Thank goodness we have YouTube. So Iโ€™m watching the tutorial I got the bike unboxed and unfolded (the thing is not light) Come to the key for the battery. I look around I got the battery charger, look through the packaging no battery no keys. I look on the box โ€“ box says no bttry. Ok. Itโ€™s Sunday will call tomorrow. I put the bike to the side and go inside. Hour later I open the door and the bike is on the ground. The back tire is completely flat and it fell right on all the gears. When I reach the company apparently there was a defect in the tires that slice a hole in the tube. They will email me instructions on how to shave or whatever nob off and sent 2 new tubes that unfortunately not available for 3 wks. They will โ€œreimburseโ€ for the cost of repair but will only be able to credit back the payment method used which of course I no longer have that account. Also I am a 52 year old woman in fair shape but seriously I will never be able to get it to a bike repair shop. Now the brakes are an issue. I canโ€™t believe this company. One of the reasons I purchased from them is I thought the bikes were built in the US. I finally got the battery so I was able to call a mobile bike repair but couldnโ€™t get an appointment until Sept 27. With this 2nd issue I really feel like they should send me a new bike all together. I saved and saved for this bike. I havenโ€™t harassed the company for all the delays but this recall is the ici g on the cake. I paid close to $1700 for this bike and accessories. Iโ€™ve been waiting since May. Itโ€™s going to cost me out of pocket $200+ for repairs that they may or may not reimburse. I missed the whole summer to use my new bike.
