  • Why: The bikes’ mechanical disc brake calipers can fail, leading to a crash risk.
  • Where: The Lectric Ebikes recall is effective in the United States.

Lectric Ebikes announced a recall for 45,000 of its e-bicycles due to failing mechanical disc brake calipers on both the front and back of the bike.

If the brakes fail, it can result in a crash risk.

The Lectric Ebikes recall involves e-bicycle models XP 3.0 Black, XP 3.0 Long- Range Black, XP Step-Thru 3.0 Black, XP Step-Thru 3.0 White, XP Step-Thru 3.0 Long Range and XP Step-Thru 3.0 Long Range White. Customers can find the model name printed on the bike’s rear rack.

Lectric sold the e-bicycles on lectricebikes.com for between $1,000 and $1,200 from Nov. 2022 to May 2023, according to the Lectric Ebikes recall.

Consumers asked to stop using e-bicycles, contact Lectric Bikes for repair kit, recall says

Lectric Ebikes says it received four reports of loss of braking power with two reports of injury including cuts, scrapes and a broken bone. The company is not facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.

Customers should immediately stop using the e-bicycles and contact Lectric Bikes to receive a free mechanical caliper repair kit. The company will also provide up to $100 toward the cost to install the replacement front and rear mechanical brake calipers.

Lectric Ebikes will contact consumers who purchased the recalled e-bicycles directly. Consumers can also contact Lectric Ebikes at (877) 479-5422 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. ET Monday through Friday or online at lectricebikesrecall.expertinquiry.com/ or lectricebikes.com.

Another electric bike company, Jetson Electric Bikes, recently recalled more than 15,000 Nova and Star 3-Wheel Kick Children’s Scooters as a wheel can fall off the scooter.
