baby sleeping in Kolcraft inclined sleeperThe United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) reports that Kolcraft has recalled its inclined infant sleeper accessory included with the Cuddle n’ Care and Preferred Position 2-in-1 Bassinets & Inclined Sleepers.

The inclined sleepers were recalled because other manufacturers’ inclined sleepers have allegedly been associated with infant deaths.

These deaths reportedly occurred in a number of circumstances, including when infants rolled from their back onto their stomach or side and subsequently suffocated.

The CPSC notes that the inclined sleeper accessory is the only part of the product being recalled.

The recall was implemented on Feb. 20, 2020 and affects around 51,000 units. Happily, no incidents have been reported in connection with the Kolcraft inclined sleeper. Customers may report incidents involving the product on the CPSC website. The recall number is 20-075.

Customers who purchased the inclined sleepers are advised to immediately stop using the inclined sleeper accessory, but may continue to use the bassinet without the sleeper accessory. These customers are also invited to contact Kolcraft to receive a $35 voucher to be used on the company’s website until Feb. 20, 2022 or a $20 refund for their purchase.

Kolcraft can be contacted by phone at 800-453-7673 Monday through Thursday between 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and on Friday between 8 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. The company can also be reached by email at customer service@kolcraft.com or on the company’s website by clicking on “Incline Sleeper Recall” or “Safety Notifications.”

The CPSC explains that Kolcraft is contacting all known purchasers and registered owners of the products via postcard, to notify them of the recall and of the refund available.

The inclined sleepers were sold for around $140 at stores and mass merchandisers around the country between March 2011 and December 2017. They were manufactured in China and imported by Kolcraft Enterprises Inc. of Chicago.

The Kolcraft Cuddle ‘n Care 2-in-1 Bassinet & Incline Sleepers have model numbers starting with KB062 while the Kolcraft Preferred Position 2-in-1 Bassinet & Incline Sleeper have model numbers starting with KB061. The model numbers can be found on the metal bar between the legs of the bassinet.

Just last month, the CPSC reported the recall of another inclined sleeper, over similar suffocation concerns. The subject of last month’s recall was the Graco Little Lounger Rocking Seat. No fatalities have been associated with that product, reports the CPSC. However, customers have already filed a Graco class action lawsuit claiming that the company knew or should have known that inclined sleepers were dangerous, but sold them anyway. Customers claimed that this put babies at risk and financially injured buyers.
