Dodge Challenger, Dodge Charger, Chrysler 300 recall overview:
- Who: Chrysler is recalling certain 2022 Dodge Challenger, Dodge Charger and Chrysler 300 vehicles
- Why: The vehicles have faulty sensors that will not alert the driver if they have low tire pressure
- Where: Nationwide
A Chrysler recall affects 52,340 of the company’s 2022 Dodge Challenger, Dodge Charger and Chrysler 300 vehicles as they have faulty sensors that won’t alert drivers if tire pressure is low.
The recall notice was posted July 14 on the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website.
According to the recall, the vehicles’ Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) sensor battery may fail prematurely and cause the sensor to stop working.
“Inoperative TPMS sensors will not alert the driver to low tire pressure,” the recall notice says.
“In addition, a TPMS warning light that is already illuminated from a failed battery sensor will mask an actual tire pressure failure issue. Either of these scenarios can result in tire failure and increase the risk of a crash.”
The issue also causes the vehicles to fail to comply with the requirements of the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard, the recall says.
The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.
Free fix through dealer
Dealers will inspect and replace the TPMS sensors as necessary, free of charge, the recall states.
Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Sept. 2.
Earlier this year, Fiat Chrysler was accused of manufacturing and selling dangerous and defective 2017-2018 Chrysler Pacifica Plug-In Hybrid minivans prone to catching fire and exploding.
In June, a judge granted preliminary approval to a Fiat Chrysler class action settlement made to resolve claims it sold certain Jeep, Dodge, Chrysler, Ram and Fiat vehicles with an engine defect.
