Food allergen recalls overview:ย 

  • Who: Abbyland Foods, Wellness Natural USA, Ellenos Real Greek, Gilster Mary Corporation, Salento Organics, Second Nature Brands and Russell Stover recently initiated food recalls.ย 
  • Why: The companies conducted the recalls due to concerns the products contained undeclared allergens, such as milk, soy and egg, among other things.ย 
  • Where: The food recalls occurred nationwide.ย 

In recognition of Food Allergy Awareness Month, Top Class Actions is taking a look back at recently initiated food product recalls over undeclared allergens.ย 

A food manufacturer may decide to conduct a recall if it determines the product is unsafe for human consumption and/or contains an undeclared allergen that could cause consumers to fall ill or worse.ย 

The nine major food allergens (as recognized by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) include milk, eggs, fish, crustacean shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat, soybeans and sesame.ย 

Abbyland Foods recalls more than 11,000 pounds of frozen turkey meatballs over undeclared soy

Abbyland Foods recalled approximately 11,800 pounds of frozen turkey meatballs last month after discovering certain boxes of the product had been mislabeled as turkey sausage patties, causing them to contain undeclared soy.ย 

The company initiated the recall after a consumer notified it that a box of the frozen turkey sausage patties actually contained turkey meatballs, which are made with soy protein concentrate.ย 

Abbyland says there have no been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions in connection with the frozen turkey meatball recall.ย 

Wellness Natural recalls all lots of SimplyProtein Peanut Butter Chocolate Crispy Bars over undeclared cashews

Wellness Natural USA recalled all lots of its SimplyProtein Peanut Butter Chocolate Crispy Bars that are within expiration last month over concerns they may contain undeclared cashews.ย 

The recall includes SimplyProtein Peanut Butter Chocolate Crispy Bars with a best-before date of between April 11, 2023, and March 14, 2024.ย 

Wellness Natural says it initiated the recall after a consumer reported they had an adverse reaction after exposure to the product.ย 

Ellenos Real Greek recalls some vanilla bean yogurt cups over undeclared egg

Ellenos Real Greek initiated a recall last month for some of its vanilla bean yogurt cups sold at Costco over concerns they may contain undeclared egg.ย 

The recall applies to Ellenos Real Greekโ€™s Vanilla Bean Greek Yogurt 4-ounce cups that were sold in Costco 12-pack cases with the item number 1340833.ย 

Ellenos says it initiated the recall after it found a few of the yogurt cups contained bright yellow puree rather than solid white yogurt with vanilla bean flakes.ย 

No injuries or deaths have been reported in connection with the recall.ย 

Glister Mary Lee Corp. recalls one lot of Hy-Vee Hamburger Chili Macaroni Skillet over undeclared milkย 

Gilster Mary Lee Corporation recalled one lot of its Hy-Vee Hamburger Chili Macaroni Skillet product in March over concerns it contained undeclared milk.ย 

The recall is for Hy-Vee Hamburger Chili Macaroni Skillet distributed in 5.2-oz. cartons, with a best by date of Feb. 8, 2024, to Hy-Vee and Fresh Market locations in Iowa, Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota, Minnesota and Wisconsin.ย 

Gilster Mary Lee says it has not received any reports of illness in connection with the recall.ย 

Salento Organics recalls six dark chocolate fruit, peanut bites over undeclared milk

Salento Organics initiated a recall in March for six of its dark chocolate fruit and peanut bite products sold in 4-oz. packaging over concerns they may contain undeclared milk.ย ย 

The recall is for certain lots of Solento Organicsโ€™ Dark Chocolate Pitaya Bites, Dark Chocolate Goldenberry Bites, Dark Chocolate Mango Bites, Dark Chocolate Banana Bites, Dark Chocolate Pineapple Bites and Dark Chocolate Peanut Bites.ย 

Salento Organics says it has not received any reports of illness that would be connected to the recall.ย 

Second Nature Brands recalls some Gluten Free Reeseโ€™s Pieces Brownie Brittle over undeclared wheat

Second Nature Brands recalled some of its Gluten Free Reeseโ€™s Pieces Brownie Brittle in March over concerns they may contain undeclared wheat.ย 

The recall is for 4-oz. packages of Second Natureโ€™s Gluten Free Reeseโ€™s Pieces Brownie Brittle containing lot codes SG 1054 15/NOV/2023 1S and SG 1054 15/NOV/2023 2S.

Second Nature says it received one report of illness in connection with the recall.ย 

Russell Stover recalls two lots of Sugar Free Peanut Butter Cups over undeclared pecans

In February, Russell Stover recalled two lots of its Sugar Free Peanut Butter Cups over concerns the products contained undeclared pecans.ย 

The company initiated the recall after consumers contacted it to inform them that packages of its Sugar Free Peanut Butter Cups contained Sugar Free Pecan Delights, another one of its products.ย 

Included in the recall are Russell Stover Sugar Free Peanut Butter Cups packaged in 2.4-oz. plastic bags containing best-before dates of May 1, 2023, and June, 1, 2023, and a UPC of 077260096937.ย 

Russell Stover says it has not received any reports of illness or allergic reactions in connection with the recall.ย
