The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission reports that At Home has recalled its Ultimate Shag Rugs because they pose a fire hazard.
According to the CPSC, the Ultimate Shag Rugs do not meet the federal flammability standard for carpets and rugs.
The rugs come in a large size and a small one. Reportedly, neither size meets the flammability standard.
The CPSC notes that though the large rugs are required to meet the flammability standard, the small ones are not required to meet the standard.
However, the small rugs are required to be labeled with a warning that the rugs are “FLAMMABLE (FAILS US DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE STANDARD FF 2-70): SHOULD NOT BE USED NEAR SOURCES OF IGNITION.”
Allegedly, the small Ultimate Shag rugs did not bear this warning.
The recall was issued on Aug. 27, 2019. Happily, no incidents related to the rugs have been reported.
The affected rugs come in three sizes — 39” x 59”, 59” x 87”, and 90” x 120.” They were made in white, gray, and beige. The recall affects a total of eight models. Around 24,000 units are affected by the recall, says that CPSC.
WKBN First News 27 reports that the rugs were sold across the country between March 2014 and December 2018 at At Home Stores, and between December 2013 and October 2014 at Garden Ridge stores.
Consumers who purchased an affected rug are eligible to receive a label for their rugs that have not been properly labeled, and possibly a refund for their purchase.
The CPSC advises customers to immediately stop using their Ultimate Shag Rug, and to contact At Home for instructions on how to get a refund for large rugs or a label for small rugs. The CPSC says customers also can return their rugs to an At Home store to receive the label or refund.
A full refund in the form of store credit is available to customers who purchased the large sizes of the rug — the 59” x 87” rugs and the 90” x 120” rugs. Customers who purchased the small size of the rug — the 39” x 59” size — will receive a label with the flammability warning. The label is to be placed on the bottom of the rug.
Customers can contact At Home toll free at 1-888-359-4387, Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Central Time. Customers can also contact the company by email at P[email protected] or through the company’s website at www.AtHome.com.
The CPSC recall number for the At Home Ultimate Shag Rug recall is 19-187.
