Ten-ounce tubs of the popular hummus brand, Sabra, have reportedly been recalled after a routine test by regulators revealed a risk of salmonella contamination.
The Sabra hummus recall affects more than 2,000 units sold in 16 states, according to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) notice issued this week. Recalled tubs have a UPC number of 300067 and were produced on Feb. 10, 2021 between 6:00 pm and 12:00 am. Only one SKU of the “Classic” version of Sabra hummus is affected by the recall. Recalled Sabra hummus tubs can also be identified by their “best before” date of April 26.
While legal action has not yet been filed over this Sabra hummus recall, Top Class Actions monitors recalls as they can often result in class action lawsuits.
The FDA says that consumers with Sabra hummus covered by the salmonella recall should not consume it and can return it to the place of purchase for a full refund. Alternatively, consumers can request a refund on the Sabra website.
The FDA notice also states that the product was sold in the following states: Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Florida, Indiana, Mississippi, Maine, Missouri, Nebraska, North Carolina, New Jersey, Utah, Virginia, Washington, and Wisconsin.
Sabra has stressed that no illnesses or complaints have been reported to the company from consumers, according to Today. The company says that it is working with the FDA to resolve the situation.
“No other Sabra products are affected by this recall,” the company stated, according to the recall. “The product is over halfway through its shelf life. It’s unlikely you’ll find this product on the shelf.”
Consumers with questions can contact the company at 1-866-265-6761 for additional information Monday – Friday from 8 AM to 8 PM Eastern Standard Time.
In its Sabra hummus recall notice, the FDA warns consumers that eating food tainted by salmonella can lead to illness, including stomach problems and fever, within three days. While most healthy adults recover, some consumers develop severe illnesses and may even require hospitalization.
“Older adults, infants, and persons with weakened immune systems are more likely to develop a severe illness,” says the FDA. “Individuals concerned about an illness should contact their health care provider.”
A number of other products have recently been pulled from the shelves over fears of salmonella contamination, including Kareen Chef brand Halva products and even frozen pet food.
