DSL Extreme advertised its trueSTREAM broadband internet service with a “fiber-optic” connection when it allegedly only provided the service through a lower-quality copper connection, according to a class action lawsuit filed against the internet provider.
DSL Extreme customers who purchased trueSTREAM internet service may not have received the service they believed they were paying for, the lawsuit claims.
DSL Extreme’s trueSTREAM Internet Service: Overview
DSL Extreme launched their trueSTREAM services in 2014, claiming to provide customers with a “lightning fast” connection without the bandwidth limits seen with other services.
According to the company’s marketing statements, trueSTREAM lives up to these promises with “fiber optic” connections.
DSL Extreme trueSTREAM Class Action Lawsuit Allegations
One DSL Extreme customer filed a class action lawsuit in 2018 alleging that DSL Extreme provided customers with poor service.
The plaintiff says he agreed to a one-year contract for internet services in 2016. In 2017, the customer allegedly upgraded his services to DSL Extreme’s trueSTREAM services. According to the trueSTREAM class action lawsuit, the consumer relied on representations that this “fiber optic” network would offer “fast downloads” and “higher speeds.”
The DSL Extreme customer claims that he received subpar services which contradicted these representations. Instead of providing high-quality fiber optic services, DSL allegedly provided the plaintiff with an inferior copper line connection which comes with far slower speeds. Fiber optic cables are superior since they convert electric signals to light and pass data at higher speeds.
According to the DSL Extreme class action lawsuit, he and other customers were financially injured by the company since they would not have agreed to pay a premium price for trueSTREAM services if they knew they weren’t receiving the level of service they thought they were paying for.
“Had Defendants not made false, misleading, and deceptive representations that the trueSTREAM service provides a ‘fiber optic’ internet connection, Plaintiff would not have been willing to purchase the trueSTREAM service and would not have been willing to pay a premium price for the trueSTREAM service,” the DSL Extreme class action lawsuit contends.
“Plaintiff was injured and lost money as a result of Defendants’ misrepresentations, omissions, and deceptive, unfair, and unlawful conduct.”
