Serta Perfect Sleeper Mattress Recall Overview:

  • Who: Serta is recalling around 800 of its Perfect Sleeper Mattresses.
  • Why: The mattresses fail to meet the mandatory federal flammability standard for mattresses, posing a fire hazard to consumers.
  • Where: The recall is nationwide in the United States.

Around 800 Serta Perfect Sleeper Mattresses are being recalled by the producer after they were found to pose a fire risk to consumers.

In a recall notice posted by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, Serta says the mattresses fail to meet the mandatory federal flammability standard for mattresses, and, in turn, must be pulled from the market.

The recall includes 25 model numbers, which can be found here. So far, no injuries have been reported in connection to the mattresses.

Serta is urging consumers to immediately stop using the recalled mattresses and contact the company to verify whether their mattress is included in the recall.

“If their mattress is recalled, consumers will receive a free replacement mattress, including free delivery and disposal of the recalled mattress,” the recall notice explains.

The mattresses were sold at Aaron’s Furniture, Ashley Furniture, Macy’s and Sam’s Club stores nationwide and online at serta.com from July 2021 through September 2021 for between $500 and $1,000. Serta says it is contacting all purchasers directly.

Other Companies Recall Sleep Products

Serta isn’t the only company that has had to pull its mattresses for not meeting federal flammability standards.

In November, Amazon had to recall more than 15,000 of its memory foam mattresses for the same issue. In a recall issued Nov. 18, Amazon said it was recalling about 15,300 of its AmazonBasics Memory Foam Mattresses in 10” and 12” sizes due the mattresses failing to meet the mandatory federal flammability standard for mattresses.

Children’s clothing products are also often the subject of such recalls. This month, Baby Square had to recall all of its Hoppetta 2-Way Gauze Sleep Bags made for children due to a flammability hazard that poses burn risks to the children. In a recall notice posted by Health Canada, the company urged consumers to immediately stop using the recalled sleeping bags and discard or return them to Baby Square for a refund.
