Dollar General Recalls Overview:

  • Who: Consumers who own Dollar General folding chairs or one of more than 20 brands of dehumidifiers recently recalled, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commision (CPSC).
  • Why: Reports of finger pinch hazards linked to the chairs and more than $17 million caused by the dehumidifiers prompted the pair of recent recalls.
  • Where: Both recalled products were sold nationwide. The dehumidifiers were also sold in Canada and Mexico.

Consumers should double check their household products. A pair of recalls were issued Wednesday in the wake of reports of finger amputations caused by Dollar General folding chairs and more than $17 million in damage caused by dehumidifiers sold under more than 20 brand names.

Dollar General Folding Chair Recall

More than 150,000 True Living Sling Loungers sold at Dollar General were recalled after reports of a finger pinch hazard that caused lacerations and even amputations.

“The recalled loungers can collapse unexpectedly, posing an amputation, laceration and  pinching hazard if finger gets caught in the metal folding joints,” warns the CPSC recall notice

Dollar General issued the recall after receiving three reports of the chairs collapsing, leading to severe injuries, including lacerations and finger amputations.

The recalled folding chairs have a white frame and come in either blue or green. They were sold at Dollar General stores nationwide between January 2019 and September 2019. They retailed for approximately $20.

Consumers should stop using the recalled folding chairs immediately, says the agency. The chairs can be returned to Dollar General for a full refund.

Millions of Dehumidifiers Recalled for Fire Hazard

Two million dehumidifiers were recalled in the US, along with hundreds of thousands of products in Canada and Mexico after more than 100 reports of the units overheating and even catching fire.

The CPSC reports that the recalled dehumidifiers, manufactured by New Widetech and sold under 20 different well-known brand names, have caused approximately $70 million in property damage.

The dehumidifier recall involves 25-, 30-, 35-, 45-, 50-, 60-, 65-, 70-, and 74-pint units sold under brand names such as AeonAir, Amana, ArcticAire, Classic, Commercial Cool, Danby, Danby Designer, Danby Premiere, De’Longhi, Edgestar, Friedrich, Generations, Haier, Honeywell, Idylis, Ivation, Perfect Aire, SuperClima, Whirlpool, and Whynter.

The specific model numbers of the recalled dehumidifiers can be found on the CPSC recall notice.

The dehumidifiers were sold at major retailers, including Lowe’s stores, Costco, Walmart, and Menards, between February 2000 and August 2017. They retailed for between $120 and $430.

“Consumers should stop using the dehumidifiers immediately and contact New Widetech for a refund,” states the recall notice. “The amount of the refund will be pro-rated based on the age of the dehumidifier.”
