Cream cheese salmonella recall overview: 

  • Who: Schreiber Foods Inc. issued a recall for 836,721 units of cream cheese products sold under the brand names Dutch Farms, Fareway, Happy Farms, Hy Vee, Kroger, Our Family, Schnuck, Essential Everyday, Dunkin, Piggly Wiggly and Schreiber Foods.
  • Why: The recall was initiated over concerns the recalled cream cheese products may have been contaminated with salmonella. 
  • Where: The recalled cream cheese products were distributed to a total of 19 U.S. states. 

Schreiber Foods Inc. issued a recall for more than 830,000 units of cream cheese products distributed in 19 states over concerns they may have been contaminated with salmonella. 

The recall involves certain cream cheese products sold under the brand names Dutch Farms, Fareway, Happy Farms, Hy-Vee, Kroger, Our Family, Schnuck, Essential Everyday, Dunkin, Piggly Wiggly and Schreiber Foods, reports Food Safety News. 

The recalled cream cheese products were reportedly distributed to California, New York, Florida, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, North Carolina, New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia, Washington and Wisconsin. 

Cream cheese recall posted online by FDA in early May

The ongoing cream cheese recall was published by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on May 3, according to Food Safety News, which said the recalled cream cheese products were also shipped to Puerto Rico. 

Meanwhile, Hy-Vee issued a recall for two varieties of its cream cheese spread on May 6 over concerns its Hy-Vee Cream Cheese Spread and Hy-Vee Cookies & Cream Mix may have been contaminated with salmonella.

The company said at the time that it had not received any reports of injury in connection with the recall and advised consumers to either dispose of the recalled cream cheese products or return them to the store to obtain a refund.
