iPhone 7 Audio Quality Not Up to Par, Say PurchasersAmong other problems that have hounded Apple lately, owners of one of the more recent models of iPhones are coming forward to report poor iPhone 7 audio quality.

According to an article on Cult of Mac, owners reporting iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus audio problems in community consumer forums say that incoming calls sound as if they are coming from behind the phone rather than through the phone’s speaker. Many state that the iPhone 7 audio sounds tunnel-like or far-away during phone calls, but that other things like music and video narration come through fine.

It is possible that the iPhone 7 audio problem is a result of a hardware defect. This is because the problem appears in a fraction of the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus units out there and is not widespread. If so, fixing it may require more than a simple software update.

Those who are lucky enough not to experience the iPhone 7 audio distortion report that this Apple model has excellent noise-cancellation qualities. Noise cancellation means that it is capable of screening out unnecessary background noise to make a conversation sound a lot clearer.

But consumers who have experienced the iPhone 7 audio distortion report that their experience with Apple support has often been less than ideal. Allegedly, Apple customer service has attempted to blame this issue on the owners themselves by claiming there has been water damage to the unit or that it has been dropped. Other service agents have suggested that the problem might have arisen because of an outside company changing out a cracked screen.

An Audio IC iPhone 7 report refers to the distortion as “loop disease” and says that it is related to the phone’s lack of rigidity. Its thinness and ability to bend and flex lead to loosening of components over time, the report theorizes.

Most consumers that have reported iPhone loop disease are saying that they are noticing it after or near to when the warranty expires. This suggests that the phone has been in use for a while, allowing an audio chip motherboard component to become loose.

The fact that it is happening around the time of warranty expiration is doubly infuriating to consumers. Many would prefer to stick with a perfectly functioning and otherwise good phone but are forced to either buy a newer model or pay for expensive repairs out of their own pocket.

While Apple seems to be trying to blame the audio problem with the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus on consumer abuse like dropping and cracking a screen or water abuse, the report says that simply carrying this model around in a pocket for a lengthy period of the day could affect the functioning.

The iPhone 7 audio issue adds to Apple’s existing problems. The company has recently been facing multiple consumer class action lawsuits, one of which challenges the pixel count in the iPhone X. Another class action alleges Apple purposely allows the FaceTime app to fail on older models.
