consumers note the health dangers of e cigarettesThe health dangers of e cigarettes are big news these days as six people have reportedly succumbed to a mystery lung ailment stemming from vaping. The article indicated that in addition to the deaths, nearly 500 people have become ill from the same lung-related vaping problem, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC).

In a report posted the day before on the Washington Post website, it was revealed that Michael Bloomberg—a well-known billionaire philanthropist and businessman— intends to start fighting the health dangers of e cigarettes by levying $160 million over a three-year period to attempt to ban flavored versions of vaping products.

The money in question, according to the report, will be used to put pressure on city, county, state, and federal governments to ban flavored e cigarettes. These entities sometimes face significant opposition and lawsuits when they support all-out bans.  It is also hoped the influx of money will put heat on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to thoroughly review vaping products and impose restrictions on e-cigarettes.

Information on the Health Dangers of E Cigarettes

In a separate Washington Post article written on September 6, 2019, it was noted that the pulmonary disease seen among those that vape in recent weeks has not been specifically connected to any one product. A certain percentage of the ill have openly admitted to using marijuana-based vaping products, but a number of those coming down with the mystery ailment affecting the lungs have strictly used nicotine-based vaping pods or switched back and forth between the two choices.

Consumers have also been suffering seizures.

The earlier Washington Post report is claiming the CDC is actively working on homing in on substances that might be to blame. These substances could be nicotine, THC—the chemical which produces the high in marijuana, dilution solutions, and other companion ingredients.

One of the focus ingredients has been Vitamin E acetate—an oil capable of being isolated from Vitamin E.

This substance—like others that have been narrowed in on—is not present in all samples gained from the large numbers of people sick from vaping-related lung disease. Those that have become ill have tended to be young and healthy. Symptoms that have been common and prevalent among the group have been difficulty catching a breath, coughing, and chest pain leading to hospitalization.

Vaping Companies Allegedly Preyed on Young People

According to Michael Bloomberg, a vaping epidemic is spinning out of control and resulting in massive nicotine addiction among young people due to marketing campaigns from companies that insisted it was harmless compared to smoking cigarettes. Among the marketing techniques used were making vaping liquid pods available in a variety of flavors that would appeal to youth such as mango, crème, fruit, and cucumber. Flavored vape juices have now been banned in the United States.

Although these flavors have been removed from stores and are allegedly more difficult to purchase online due to new age restrictions, sales of mint flavored JUUL pods have skyrocketed. This is in part due to the reduced availability of the other varieties and has created windfall profit for the vaping product company who reported $2.36 billion in sales for mint-flavored this year.

Those individuals or parents of adolescents who have been injured by JUUL or other vaping products may be able to file a lawsuit against the manufacturer.
