A man says he is addicted to nicotnicotine addiction from Juul pods.In a recent lawsuit, a 20-year-old Colorado man is alleging serious Juul pods health risks, including a crippling nicotine addiction he says he developed as a teen.

The plaintiff, Mohammed A., says he began using Juul products in 2016, when he was 17, and he continues to do so to this day. Mohammed blames the pods for his addiction to nicotine and says he has also suffered “severe and permanent personal injuries, pain, suffering, and emotional distress,” the Denver Post reports.

According to the lawsuit, the manufacturer was aware of its Juul pods health risks, including nicotine addiction associated with its vaping devices, but the company not only failed to warn the public, it actively presented Juul as a device that didn’t present a high risk of nicotine addiction in adolescent users.

Juul purposely targeted children and young adults in its marketing campaigns, product designs, and pod flavor choices, the complaint claims. The lawsuit cites a study performed by researchers at Stanford University, who found that Juul’s marketing was “patently youth oriented.” The lawsuit claims that Juul used targeted marketing on social media platforms, using social media influencers, and hired young models for its ads.

The company even knowingly and/or intentionally used an online sales platform to sell Juul products to minors, Mohammed claims. Until August 2018, three years after it was brought onto the market, Juul failed to warn about nicotine on its packaging, the lawsuit notes.

As a result of the targeted marketing of children and young adults, the lawsuit claims, the number of young people who vape has skyrocketed year after year. In fact, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) found that between 2017 and 2018, e-cigarette usage increased by 78 percent among high school students, to a total of about 20.8 percent, and increased by 48 percent among middle schoolers, to a total of about 4.9 percent.

The FDA is currently investigating Juul’s marketing tactics toward children and young adults.

In September, CNN reported that some major retailers have stopped, or are planning to stop, selling e-cigarettes as a result of the growing concern over this issue.

Mohammed filed his Juul lawsuit on Oct. 25, 2019, in the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado.

Filing a Juul Lawsuit

If you or someone you love has suffered from Juul pods health risks, such as nicotine addiction or seizures, you may be able to file a lawsuit and pursue compensation. Of course, filing a lawsuit cannot take away the pain and suffering caused by these side effects, nor can it bring a loved one back to life, but it can at least help to alleviate the financial burden incurred by medical expenses, lost wages, and more.

Pursuing litigation can be a daunting prospect, so Top Class Actions has laid the groundwork by connecting you with an experienced attorney. Consulting an attorney can help you determine if you have a claim, navigate the complexities of litigation, and maximize your potential compensation.

The Juul Pods Health Risks Lawsuit is Case No. 1:19-cv-03062-LTB, in the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado.
