Travis Scott, LiveNation, Astroworld Lawsuits Overview:
- Who: Concertgoers have lodged more than a dozen lawsuits against Travis Scott and LiveNation.
- Why: The lawsuits were filed after eight concertgoers died while attending the Astroworld music festival over the weekend in Houston, Texas.
- Where: The lawsuits are pending in Harris County District Court.
Travis Scott and LiveNation face at least 14 lawsuits after eight concertgoers died and hundreds were injured while attending the Astroworld music festival over the weekend.
The complaints were filed by concertgoers who were injured after attendees within a crowd of 50,000 surged to the front of the stage at NRG Stadium on the first day of what was supposed to be a two-day event.
The family of Alex Costa, a 21-year-old concertgoer who died, has also said they plan to file a complaint, reports Law360.
In addition to the eight deaths, around 300 attendees were injured during the event — including a 10-year-old child — with various levels of severity, reports The Independent.
Concert goers have named Houston-area rapper Travis Scott, LiveNation, and Scoremore LLC and its affiliates as defendants, while one lawsuit also named Aubrey Drake Graham (Drake), who at one point performed with Scott during the show, reports Law360.
Travis Scott, LiveNation Put Profits Ahead of Safety Claim Astroworld Lawsuits
Each lawsuit is reportedly asking for more than $1 million in compensation, with plaintiffs arguing the defendants put profits over the safety of attendees and encouraged an atmosphere of violence.
One attendee, Manuel Souza, claims the loss of life was due to failures on the part of Travis Scott and event organizers.
“Tragically, due to defendants’ motivation for profit at the expense of concertgoers’ health and safety, and due to their encouragement of violence, at least eight people lost their lives and scores of others were injured at what was supposed to be a night of fun,” Souza says in his complaint, reports Law360.
Travis Scott has offered to pay for the funerals of the eight victims who died, reports The Independent.
If you or a loved one attended the Astroworld music festival over the weekend and experienced physical injury, death, or PTSD, you may qualify for compensation (links to paid attorney advertisement).
Plaintiff Souza is represented by Steve Kherkher, Jesus Garcia Jr., Kevin C. Haynes, Ryan MacLeod, Matt L. Martin, and Tommy Kherkher of Kherkher Garcia LLP.
One Travis Scott Astroworld Lawsuit is Souza v. Scoremore LLC et al., Case No. 2021-73135, in the 334th District Court of Harris County.
