T Mobile prices class action lawsuit overview: 

  • Who: A group of consumers filed a class action lawsuit against T-Mobile USA Inc. 
  • Why: Consumers claim that the company violated its guarantee that certain wireless cell phone service plans had rates that were guaranteed to last for life. 
  • Where: The T Mobile class action lawsuit was filed in New Jersey federal court. 

T-Mobile violated its guarantee that the terms of certain wireless cell phone service plans would last for life, a new class action lawsuit alleges. 

A group of consumers claim the company switched their cell phone plans earlier this year to a more expensive plan without their consent, despite guaranteeing the plans would either last for life or as long as a customer wanted to remain with it. 

“T Mobile has reneged on its promises to its customers and raised rates for all the plans with rates that were promised to be guaranteed for life,” the class action says. 

The group of consumers want to represent a nationwide class and subclasses of consumers in Georgia, Nevada, Pennsylvania and New Jersey who entered into a T-Mobile ONE Plan, Simple-Choice plan, Magenta, Magenta Max, Magenta 55 +, Magenta Amplified or Magenta Military Plan with the company that included a promise of a lifetime price guarantee and who had their price increased without their consent. 

T Mobile promised rates for their ONE plans were to never change, class action claims

The consumers argue the company introduced the ONE wireless cell phone service plans — which the company referred to as an “un-contract” — in 2017, at which time the carrier allegedly promised the plans’ rates would never be changed. 

In 2020, however, the company completed a merger with Sprint, at which time the former pledged not to raise rates on its phone plans for three years, according to the class action. 

“Now that the three years have elapsed and the wireless network landscape has continued to contract leaving consumers with less choices,” the class action says. 

Consumers argue T-Mobile is guilty of common law fraud and common law false advertising and negligent misrepresentation, and of violating New Jersey’s Consumer Fraud Act, the Georgia Uniform Deceptive Trade Practices Act, the Nevada Deceptive Trade Practices Act and the Pennsylvania Unfair Trade PRactices and Consumer Protection Law.

The plaintiffs demand a jury trial and request injunctive relief and an award of actual damages for themselves and all class members. 

Mediation for a class action lawsuit revolving T-Mobile’s merger with Sprint failed earlier this year. The complaint argues the company forced mostly minority-owned stores to close in the wake of the merger, despite telling Congress and the public it would be opening hundreds of stores.

    I was on the 55 plus plan.Was told price would never increase as long as the bill was paid.$60.00 per month for 2 lines. That. consist of unlimited talk, unlimited internet with no slowdowns on speed. And unlimited text. Account was always on auto pay never missed a payment. In the past year, they have raised my rates up to $70 per 2 lines. And put a limit.
    On my internet at high speed .
    and then it slows down.. Been with the company for 8 years. The bill never increased for 7 years. Definitely a breach of contract. Please sign me end my wife up.

    I’ve had T-Mobile Magenta Plan since 2019 and before that it was the “ONE plan” before the rebrand. I’m total I’ve been a T-Mobile customer for nearly 20 years now. When they did their rebrand, back in 2019 the prices went higher but we were told that this is a great plan for our family. We’ve always had 3 lines and just last year we added on the WiFi/internet service. When the change was made from ONE plan to Magenta they said “price lock guaranteed” to the price of the lines. We used to pay $140 for our 3 lines, minus $10 for paying with auto pay. All of our phones are paid off.
    We added internet for $35 a month so it should be $165. We are paying $235!!!!
    It’s gotten ridiculous!! They told us that from the time we joined the magenta Plan to now they increased the price of our phone lines. We stay with T-Mobile because we’ve been long time customers and they do have good service! But why tell your customers that it’s “price lock GUARANTEED” if it’s not!!

    All my phone are paid off and my bill is getting higher, they just raised it to $20 more since paying off all 4 lines, when it’s supposed to be lower

    Have a grandfathered plan and they have raised my bill over $200 per month plus 5 per line and I have 10 lines

      Mobile took monies charged my godmom over 1000 dollars switched chips, took a cell and disrupted a model encroaching on Metro PCS. Was charged for things that were actually free. They need to be reprimanded. Now thry charge 500 dollars on collections with services we never had.

    I am on the First Responders Magenta Plan and have been since 2020. My bill started out around 80 or 90 bucks. Now it comes out to be as much as $166 a month. It doesn’t make since both my phones are paid for and my 3rd line is only supposed to be $10 a month added. And when I first got the First Responders Magenta Plan I’m pretty sure my base rate was supposed to be guaranteed as long as I have this plan.

    I too was on the magenta 55+ plan. I was also told it was never going up, then bam they up my bill to $120. Please add my name to this, tired of companies taking advantage and lying. Called company, pretty much said take it and like it. UNFAIR!
