Skincare company Yes To Inc. has agreed to pay $750,000 to end claims its recalled Yes To Grapefruit Vitamin C Glow-Boosting Unicorn Paper Mask caused skin irritation and redness.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced the Yes To Grapefruit mask recall in January 2020 after consumers complained the product caused skin irritation in adults and children.
As a result of the recall, the company pulled the mask from shelves at major retailers in the U.S.
Lead plaintiffs Imani Whitfield and Shawanna McCoy filed their class action lawsuit that same month, seeking to represent a nationwide Class and Pennsylvania Subclass of consumers who had purchased the Yes To Grapefruit Vitamin C Glow-Boosting Unicorn Paper Mask.
According to the class action lawsuit, one consumer complained about the skin irritation issue with the Yes To Grapefruit mask via social media as early as September 2019.
Whitfield and McCoy alleged the company knew about the complaint because it responded to the post, instructing the consumer to email the company’s customer service department. However, it failed to take any further action.
“This delay allowed Defendant to reap a significant financial windfall over the Christmas season, while putting its customers at risk,” the complaint said. “Due to Defendant’s behavior, consumers were forced to suffer the consequences while Defendant reaped significant financial compensation from unsuspecting consumers.”
Under the terms of the proposed settlement, Class Members submitting valid claims may be eligible to recover $3 for each mask purchased or used, up to a maximum of six. No proof of purchase will be required.
No other relief is provided under the settlement terms.
If the Yes To Grapefruit mask settlement receives preliminary approval as expected Feb. 26, 2021, consumers will be able to file claims until April 12, 2021. Those wishing to opt out of the settlement will have until Aug. 10, 2021, to do so.
A final approval hearing is scheduled for Sept. 24, 2021.

Add me, as my wife used these several times and had such a bad rash on her face and her neck. She had to take Benadryl to calm the swelling and rash. She didn’t realize it was the mask till the third time she used it. Add her.
I bought these around February 2020, and visited my mom to have a spa day together at home. Her face got a little pink but wasn’t bad. My throat started itching and my eyes were becoming irritated and red. My face, started tingling and a very deep red. We rushed to cvs to get Benadryl, and I took it at the store. My throat felt like it was closing up. Thought it was just a reaction I had. Didn’t think it was a thing with other people. Add me please
Both my daughters and I used it. Red irritated skin. Had to go a couple days with no makeup and just used a soothing face cream
Had scabs on my face from burning after use.
It makes my skin get a rash, my daughter tried it and she broke out too
