Honda made and sold select 2020-2022 Pilot, Passport and Odyssey vehicles with known infotainment system defects and phantom braking issues, and then “gaslit” drivers seeking a fix for the issues, a new class action lawsuit alleges.
Plaintiff Aida Milena Gonzalez filed the class action lawsuit against American Motor Co. Inc. and Honda Motor Co. Ltd. on July 25 in a California federal court, alleging violations of state and federal consumer laws.
According to the lawsuit, Honda made and sold the vehicles with an infotainment defect that caused many of the vehicles’ features, including the navigation system and the audio system, to malfunction.
The lawsuit alleges the automaker also made and sold the vehicles with braking defects, which allegedly caused phantom braking, increasing the risk of rear-end collisions, and other dangerous situations.
Milena Gonzalez alleges Honda knew about the defects since 2017 and continued to make and sell new defective vehicles.
Honda has faced previous lawsuits about the issue, plaintiff says
Honda has already been sued for infotainment issues and phantom braking issues for vehicles produced in years immediately preceding the vehicles named in the current lawsuit, Milena Gonzalez says.
Meanwhile, the automaker has found no fix for the issues, she adds.
“Over the years, Honda has gaslit consumers, telling consumers that they have identified a problem, offering to fix the problem, and ultimately having the problem reoccur,” the lawsuit states.
As a result, Milena Gonzalez seeks to represent anyone who purchased or leased a 2020-2022 Honda Pilot, a 2020-2022 Honda Odyssey (except the 2020 LX), or a 2020-2022 Honda Passport manufactured and sold by Honda with the alleged infotainment defects or the alleged braking defects.
She is suing for violations of state consumer laws, breach of warranty, fraud by omission and unjust enrichment and seeks certification of the class action, damages, fees, costs and a jury trial.
Meanwhile, Honda has recently been in the headlines over a number of recalls and class action lawsuits. These involve concerns relating to brake and rear view camera defects, electric power steering system issues and an alleged variable timing control defect.

Honda Odyssey 2020, already paid for. But too many electrical issues. Side Doors and tailgate not allowing to close and opened randomly.
Had to override and closed manually many times. Two major Honda Dealership in Houston Tx never address infotainment system problems, popping or crackling sounds, no audio, display problems, and even safety-related issues like rear camera failure. Honestly its a great disappoint and shame on Honda for not recalling such failures.
Water flooding from the side door.
I had a 2017 Honda Ridgeline then traded it in for a 2021 Passport, my passport has had so many problems and recalls. With the rear view camera to loss of brake function to the VTR defect to now airbags.
Very disappointed with Honda.
My vehicle was part of the class action lawsuit for models of 2002 to 2011 Honda Odyssey. Honda never took care of the problem and then I bought the vehicle and found out about it a year later.
In August 2022 I totaled my 2020 Honda Pilot due to breaks not properly working. Almost a year later there were recalls so by then the car was gone and I’m not able to prove anything
My sister and I have had numerous issues of the se issues with our 2017 Hondas. I feel like we bought lemons. Please contact me. Thank you!
I have the phantom braking issue and the infotainment system issues in my 2021 Honda Accord Sport Special Edition too.
