Carhartt announces recall for men’s work pants due to fall risk

Carhartt recalled more than 32,000 pairs of men’s work pants with hem adjustment cords as the pants can pose a trip-and-fall hazard. 

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission website posted the recall March 30. It applies to about 32,505 pairs of Carhartt Men’s Force Relaxed 5 Pocket Work Pants with an elastic drawstring hem near the ankle of the pants.

According to the Carhartt recall, an elastic drawstring hem near the ankle of the pants can create an extended loop, posing a trip and fall hazard.

No injuries have been reported so far, the company says. It is not facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.

Consumers can keep pants, get full refund by cutting cord, Carhartt recall says

The pants were sold exclusively at Dick’s Sporting Goods stores nationwide and online at dickssportinggoods.com from July 2022 through November 2022 for about $70.

The pants come in various sizes and have product number 105222 printed on a tag on the inside seam near the waistband. They were sold in gray and brown colors and feature two front pockets, a phone pocket on the right leg and two back pockets, one with a zipper. 

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled work pants and return them to Dick’s Sporting Goods or Carhartt for a full refund, the Carhartt recall says. 

If consumers want to keep the pants, they can cut the loop out of the hems and send a photo to Carhartt at just_ask_us@carhartt.com, showing proof the cord was removed to get a full refund, according to the recall.

In January, a consumer hit Carhartt with a class action lawsuit alleging it illegally “looks over the shoulder” of potential customers browsing its website to access consumer data.
