Another plaintiff recently filed an ERISA lawsuit against Unum Life Insurance asking for reinstatement of disability benefits.
The plaintiff, Stacy G., claims that though she qualified for employee benefits under ERISA (the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974) and through Unum, the life insurance company failed to come through with her insurance benefits.
According to the complaint, Stacy was denied proper disability benefits that she was entitled to under ERISA and her Unum coverage. Stacy seeks reinstatement of disability benefits from Unum, interest, and the benefits she was previously entitled to leading up to the suit.
The complaint was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California for the reinstatement of disability benefits by Unum. The plaintiff is a California resident.
Seeking Reinstatement of Disability Benefits
Stacy is far from the only employee to be denied benefits through a policy issued by Unum Life Insurance Company of America. Unum is the single largest disability insurance company in the country.
Some disabled consumers seek reinstatement of disability benefits by pursuing the administrative means available to them, including appealing Unum’s decision. However, Unum may deny this appeal.
After exhausting administrative means of appealing this decision, some turn to the courts to seek reinstatement of disability benefits.
A growing number of plaintiffs like Stacy have begun filing disability benefits lawsuits against Unum Life Insurance seeking a reinstatement of disability benefits. These plaintiffs allege that the insurance giant unfairly denied their claims to disability benefits that they qualify for under the terms of their insurance policies.
This Unum ERISA lawsuit and others like it allege that Unum, as the largest disability insurance company in the country, has unfairly denied the disability insurance claims of plaintiffs who are qualified to receive such benefits.
Some Unum lawsuits go further, alleging that the company purposely denied the claims of hundreds of thousands of workers with legitimate disabilities for no reason other to increase company profit.
Former employees of Unum have reported being instructed to purposely deny insurance to people with legitimate claims to disability benefits in order to fulfill the company’s quota.
Consumers who have exhausted all recourse through applications and appeals for disability benefits may turn to filing an ERISA lawsuit over denied disability benefits, hoping to reverse Unum’s denial.
If you or someone you know has been unfairly denied long-term disability benefits by Unum Life Insurance Company of America, you may be able to seek reinstatement of disability benefits by filing an Unum lawsuit.
The Reinstatement of Disability Benefits Lawsuit is Case No. 2:17-cv-03999-VAP-AJW, in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California.
