The Rams have agreed to pay up to $25 million to Missouri football fans who were allegedly financially injured when the team moved out of St. Louis.

The settlement benefits Missouri consumers who purchased Rams’ tickets and/or merchandise between April 22, 2010 and Jan. 4, 2016.

Plaintiffs filed the Rams class action lawsuit in 2016, claiming that the owner and team misled fans regarding their move to Los Angeles. The move was announced by the National Football League (NFL) on Jan. 13, 2016 and the Rams class action was filed just one day later.

According to the plaintiffs, fans spent significant amounts of money on tickets, concessions, and merchandise based on representations that the Rams team would stay in St. Louis.

In 2010, the Rams owner allegedly gave an interview and said: “I’m going to attempt to do everything I can to keep the Rams in St. Louis.” The owner reportedly made further statements assuring fans that “is not our desire to ever lead the charge out of St. Louis.” These statements and representations were allegedly proved false when the team was moved to California.

The Rams have not admitted any wrongdoing but have agreed to pay up to $25 million directly to consumers who purchased tickets and merchandise before the move.

In December 2018, the Rams agreed to another $24 million settlement with Rams ticket holders who purchased seat licenses at the St. Louis stadium.

Under the settlement, Class Members can collect 25 percent of any documented purchase of Rams tickets or merchandise. Claims must include proof of purchase in the form of receipts or other documentation.

The settlement website notes that the Rams have only agreed to pay up to $25 million to consumers. If the amount claimed exceeds this total, claims will reportedly be adjusted on a pro rata basis.

In order to benefit from the Rams settlement, consumers need to file a valid Claim Form by Jan. 16, 2020. The deadline for exclusion and objection was Nov. 4, 2019. The final approval hearing for the settlement was scheduled for Dec. 17, 2019.
