Snap Finance agreed to a $1.8 million class action lawsuit settlement to resolve claims that it failed to prevent a 2022 data breach that compromised sensitive consumer information.
The settlement benefits consumers who provided personal information to Snap Finance and received a letter from Snap in December 2022 informing them that their information may have been compromised in a data breach between June 23 and Sept. 8, 2022.
Plaintiffs in the class action lawsuit claim that Snap Finance could have prevented the 2022 cyberattack that compromised the information of more than 60,000 consumers. The data breach could have been prevented if Snap had taken reasonable precautions to protect their information, the plaintiffs claim.
Snap Finance is a financial lender that offers credit opportunities to consumers with all types of credit.
Snap Finance hasn’t admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to a $1.8 million settlement to resolve the data breach class action lawsuit.
Under the terms of the Snap Finance settlement, class members can receive up to $5,000 for various data breach-related expenses. These expenses could include fraud, identity theft, bank fees, credit costs and more.
Class members can also receive two years of free credit monitoring services from the settlement.
The deadline for exclusion and objection is Dec. 18, 2023.
The final approval hearing for the settlement is scheduled for Jan. 23, 2024.
