Safeway and Albertsons Cos. agreed to a $107 million settlement to resolve a class action lawsuit claiming they falsely advertised some products with “buy one get one” (BOGO) sales.
The settlement benefits consumers who purchased certain meat products advertised with a “Buy One, Get One Free” or “Buy One, Get Two Free” promotion at Safeway locations in Oregon using a Safeway Club Card between May 4, 2015, and Sept. 7, 2016.
Plaintiffs in the class action lawsuit accused Safeway of violating Oregon law by raising the price of meat products sold under “Buy One, Get One Free” and “Buy One, Get Two Free” promotions. By raising the prices above regular retail prices, Safeway allegedly deceived customers into believing they were getting a good deal while actually overcharging for the products.
Safeway is a grocery store chain owned by Albertsons Cos. The chain has locations around the country, including numerous locations in Oregon.
Safeway and Albertsons haven’t admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to a $107 million settlement to resolve the false sale class action lawsuit.
Under the terms of the Safeway settlement, class members can receive an equal share — estimated to be $200 — of the net settlement fund.
Exact payments may be higher or lower depending on the number of participating class members and the net settlement fund after deductions for expenses and other costs.
The deadline for exclusion and objection is June 16, 2023.
The final approval hearing for the Safeway settlement is scheduled for July 10, 2023.
In order to receive settlement benefits, class members must submit a valid claim form by July 10, 2023.

It needs to be in Washington state too! Wtf?
Albertsons AND Safeway, San Diego Calif. Single parent trying to give my children of meats. RIBS, CHICKEN BREASTS, STEAK, on the regular were all buy one, get one in my community. My phone number is STILL the same.
Add my name to the growing list.
This claim is rigged I am an Oregon resident and did indeed purchase meet using my club card and phone number. According to the link on the website. You type in your data and it says invalid every time. I happen to know better I don’t live in the area no longer do I have to drive to the store and get a letter from whom checked me out at the store ? To prove I am a class member ?
what about california it is as bad as one in OR I have safeway card
I agree, and it’s probably worse in CA. Every BOGO price is jacked up. Does anyone know if California law has something similar to Oregon or if there’s a class action pending?
Add Me
Do it include the Safeway in Maryland
Oh my goodness, Safeways in California are just as shady. Every single shopping experience at Safeway leads me back to customer service as there is always discrepancies. I have also noticed that their Safeway select items are now costing more than the usual popular brands of items. They also jack up their prices for the supposed sale. In order to get all the deals that you have coming to you it’s research in several different areas within the app and clip claim, clip claim, clip claim those coupons and or deals…oh and don’t forget about scanning those digital coupons as well….it’s quite time consuming and I am finding that it is still costing too much money to shop at Safeway. Especially when their deals are not really deals.
One thing, in their undeserved defense, is that they always rectify the discrepancy of the situation calls for it
That’s now because at one time Safeway wasn’t like that what I can’t say about California but I can say about Maryland Baltimore City. We carry the best and the freshest foods
I see this type of thing in St. Louis grocery stores now.! I have a few pictures of a SALE sign with a price stating the “regular price” and sale price, but UNDER that sign, the sticker that is on the shelf is less than both of those on the sale sign. That was target, just a few days ago.
That is a Huge Class Action Settlement Amount! Guess they figure they Can Afford to Pay plus grocery store has made so much money
I have seen them do this in Albuquerque as well!
