Following a bankruptcy filing, consumers who were injured by OxyContin or other addictive opioids manufactured by Purdue Pharma may be able to recover compensation.

The claim program benefits individuals who were injured by Purdue opioids such as OxyContin before Sept. 15, 2019, or the families of minors or deceased victims.

In September 2019, Purdue Pharma declared bankruptcy after facing significant liability in OxyContin and opioid addiction lawsuits. Following their bankruptcy filings, Purdue launched a $23.8 million ad campaign in order to advertise a claims program.

Under the claims deal, Purdue will pay to resolve the claims in nearly 3,000 lawsuits alleging that their OxyContin and other opioid products were irresponsibly produced. Allegedly, the company downplayed the risks of their opioids and overstated the benefits.

As a result, hundreds of thousands of people have allegedly died over the past 20 years as part of the opioid epidemic in America.

“A lot of the victims don’t know that they were victimized. They may think that they’re addicts. They may think that they have a moral failing or a character failing,” Ed Neiger, a lawyer for opioid victims, told AP News. “There were people in a boardroom that caused them to become addicted to opioids.”

Although the amount that consumers can collect hasn’t been finalized, compensation may be available to injured parties. A Class Member’s payment will vary depending on the injury they suffered (death, addiction, dependence, lost wages, loss of wages, loss of spousal relationship, etc.).

In order to receive benefits from the settlement, Class Members must file a valid claim form online or through the mail by June 20, 2020. Class Members should include proof of any damages or injuries.

  1. Charlotte Pratt says:

On December 9, 2008 I came home to find my beloved husband dead of a self inflicted gun shot to the head. Just the day before he told me he was afraid he might be addicted to OxyContin. He had been in a serious car accident 3 years prior. He had had back surgery and was sent to supposedly the best pain management doctor in Atlanta. Of course there is no need in me explaining the mind numbing grief that followed. A couple of weeks later, I, as his executor, called the doctor to report his suicide and all I got was total silence on the phone from the young woman I spoke to. I still think she hung up on me. I sent 3 separate certified return receipt letters to this so called doctor asking for notes taken on my husband (that I was entitled to) and they were completely ignored. I had no family nearby to help me wade through the aftermath or money to pay an attorney. But I did survive. Honestly, in and of itself, OxyContin is not the only culprit. The doctors who prescribed it again and again and again with no thought to the end result are just as much to blame. PLEASE add me if possible after over 11 years. Time does NOT heal all wounds. Thank you.

All of your claims are legit, I was an Alcoholic/Addict for decades and got clean and sober then 4 years later injured myself and was prescribed Vicodin and got hooked quick, started buying them on the street because the script was not enough after a few years, lost a well paying job and now I’m on Suboxone for who know how long.Is Vicodin considered as part of settlement? I didn’t get injured on Opioids but it damaged me in other ways and I did lose wages..Joseph

I would like to see you be put into the same kind of situation without knowing what that stuff was going to do to you. I have watched my father have to go through all of that and many times didn’t think he would be alive with what it did to him. Thank god he still is. You Are A Very Disrespectful Person. You don’t have a clue.

When will be take accountability for their actions instead of frivolous lawsuits blaming their problems on big pharma. Shame on all of you. If oxy doesn’t kill you, your greed will

    1. Anthony Paone says:

My husband was getting prescriptions for oxy cotton and fentanyl by a corrupt doctor who is now in jail! He was very sick and addicted and had to go to rehab facility for help!

  8. Tonya M Nelson says:

    PLEASE ADD ME
My name is Tonya Nelson and I was born with sickle cell anemia so I’ve been on opioids pretty much my entire life. I’ve taken Oxycontin, Dilaudid, methadone, Percocet, fentanyl and I’m currently on morphine sulfate, immediate-release(30mgs)&extended-release(60mgs) all prescribed by my dermatologist. I was given Vicoden at a very young due to the poison caused by my illness and the older I got the worse the pain so the stronger the medication and now I can’t live a normal life with my two children because I have a dependency of these medications. I can’t physically afford not to take them because if I do I’ll go into withdrawal. I should be added to the lawsuit because Purdue Pharma has completely ruined my life.

    1. Jacob says:

I have the same problem. I have to live my life around the scripts. If I’m late on taking them because I’m out doing something I start to go through withdrawals. Depending on what I’m doing, who knows what could happen if I dont get to the pills in time before I’m full out sick. I hate trying to be with my kids on a nice day and have to stop playing because I have to take a pill or two. Withdrawals are very scary, I cant go without the pills, I’m in constant pain, I dont want to live like this anymore. I take them for pain relief in my l-4 and l-5 bulged disc.. I take them because i dont want to go through any withdrawals. This crap sucks. Addiction, no i dont want it anymore. But i have to , to be able to live.

  9. Apathy Miller says:

How do you provide proof of addiction? Are copies of my scripts proof? I was on oxys for 20 years…

    1. Christina Larsen says:

On July 18, 2004 my grandmother came home and found my grandfather dead on their bed. He had shot himself in the head committing suicide. In March of 2004 he was visiting his brother in Glendale, CA and was coming down their stairs and thought that he was at the bottom of the stairs and took a regular step and fell and broke his leg. He spent about 10 days in the hospital in Glendale then was transferred to a rehab hospital in Fresno, CA. He spent from March to July in 2 different rehab hospitals. On July 9, 2004 he was released to go home removing him from all of his medication, one of them being oxycontin, he went into a deep depression and 9 days later he committed suicide because he was addicted to the medication and removed off of it cold Turkey. Please contact me and let me know if my family has a claim in this lawsuit. Thank you

    PLEASE ADD ME!!!!!!!

I have been prescribed opiates by my family doctor and I’ve been on numerous different opiates now for the past 8 years and currently now I have to take oxycotin 60mg long lasting twice a day now to be able to live my life as i am now physically dependent on these pills.

( AND THE PILLS ARE CONSIDERED LIFE SUSTAINING MEDICATION BY MY DOCTOR )

If i don’t take the oxycontin i will get so extremely sick from the opiate withdrawals & also deal with extreme pain to the point that im completely bed ridden due to the withdrawal & extreme pain that it completely impacts my life regardless if i take them or i don’t take them and i will have to take them for the rest of my life so says my family doctor and i now consider myself an addict with a active oxycontin drug addiction and anyone else would also say im a drug addict but to be clear i don’t abuse my medication.
I struggle everyday with depression because it really bothers me that in order to live a normal life and to be able to work instead of collecting social security disability i have to wake up and take a pill and before i go to sleep i have to take a pill i even contemplated committing suicide and still do everyday because of this…

    P.S.
That’s my story and to anyone that reads this and feels the need to degrade me, talk shit about me or ECT. Feel free to because i honestly don’t care what you think or say because (# 1) U DON’T KNOW ME!!!!!!!!!!!!
    (# 2) U DON’T LIVE MY LIFE!!!!!!
    (# 3) U DON’T MATTER TO ME!!
(# 4) I DON’T CARE WHAT U HAVE TO SAY OR WHAT U THINK NEITHER!!!!!!

    THANK YOU FOR LETTING ME.

    2. Jacob says:

I k ow how you feel. Being injured and on these drugs is helpful for your mind and body to be able to function a daily life. But you have to take them or be sick and feel like dying. I know all about it. It sucks.
