Following a bankruptcy filing, consumers who were injured by OxyContin or other addictive opioids manufactured by Purdue Pharma may be able to recover compensation.

The claim program benefits individuals who were injured by Purdue opioids such as OxyContin before Sept. 15, 2019, or the families of minors or deceased victims.

In September 2019, Purdue Pharma declared bankruptcy after facing significant liability in OxyContin and opioid addiction lawsuits. Following their bankruptcy filings, Purdue launched a $23.8 million ad campaign in order to advertise a claims program.

Under the claims deal, Purdue will pay to resolve the claims in nearly 3,000 lawsuits alleging that their OxyContin and other opioid products were irresponsibly produced. Allegedly, the company downplayed the risks of their opioids and overstated the benefits.

As a result, hundreds of thousands of people have allegedly died over the past 20 years as part of the opioid epidemic in America.

“A lot of the victims don’t know that they were victimized. They may think that they’re addicts. They may think that they have a moral failing or a character failing,” Ed Neiger, a lawyer for opioid victims, told AP News. “There were people in a boardroom that caused them to become addicted to opioids.”

Although the amount that consumers can collect hasn’t been finalized, compensation may be available to injured parties. A Class Member’s payment will vary depending on the injury they suffered (death, addiction, dependence, lost wages, loss of wages, loss of spousal relationship, etc.).

In order to receive benefits from the settlement, Class Members must file a valid claim form online or through the mail by June 20, 2020. Class Members should include proof of any damages or injuries.

    1. David Bumbeck says:

I’m so sorry. I suffered greatly, but thank God I didn’t lose anyone in my family due to death and luckily was not arrested as my life spun out of control. God Bless you, praying for your health and happiness.

  3. CHARLES MAYFIELD says:

    ADD ME PLEASE

  4. Tony says:

Kaiser Permanente prescribed me opioids for over four years that I became addicted to. It wasn’t until I changed my healthcare provider and was able to see private physicians. I was still giving the pain pills but also had surgery to repair what was needed. Kaiser never suggested The knee surgery. I since have gotten a new knee and now I am still trying to get weaned off the opioids after surgery a year ago. Kaiser should have never prescribed this medication they knew were very addictive and should’ve known better and suggested surgery instead of trying to mask the pain.

  5. jessica sweeney says:

I too became addicted and was forced to turn to the streets for my habit. One year turned to two, then four then 8 and so on and so forth. Yes it’s been a long hard road and iam more then ready to get some small measure back, considering all that that beastly company took from me.

  6. Deloris Morgan says:

Add me. If HYDROCO/ACETAMIN. made the list. !!!!

  7. Sarah Nance says:

My girl friend is definitely a victim of these pills. She has lost her home because of these things and she deserves to get the chance to get it back. Please add her

  8. Tanya Silva says:

I’m not sure if I qualify. I never did any kind of drugs in my life & in 2012 got into an accident & messed up both my knees & was put on Hydrocodone 10/325, 120 of them per month. Naturally I got addicted. I was given them for 5 years then one day they cut everyone off, including myself. I never over took my medication & really did need them for the pain so I could walk & live a half ass normal life with my 2 daughter’s. Since I couldn’t get my pain medicine I had to look on the streets & heroin is easier to get than pain meds so I got strung out on heroin & still am on it. I HATE HATE HATE everything about heroin but I feel like I have no other choice. Idk what to do or if this lawsuit is even for me. Please add me

    1. Samantha Knight says:

How about all of those people who are on the opposite end of the spectrum. We did not become addicted, but due to health problems, we need our medications to have quality of life. However, those medications are denied to us because doctors are afraid to sign their names to such a prescription because of the risk it takes to losing their license. When I was in my 20’s, I was diagnosed with chronic pain. It was the mid-eighties, so while the understanding and notion of Fibromyalgia was known in the militiary, the diagnosis was not readily given, there was not a lot of literature or research about it and, your shipmates would call you a malingerer, etc. I am only 54-years old now. I have fought breast cancer and won, but I have neupathy pain on a daily basis. I can barely walk without a cane or walker. I can’t get a prescription at my VA for pain management, or even in the civilian sector for that matter, without someone looking at me and telling me to get into therapy or try this or try that. Really? We all have to assume that we are all educated, so as such, do you think I would be posting on this site if I haven’t tried everything already? I know there are two sides to this situation, and it breaks my heart when I see families torn apart, and I really feel sorry for those families that have lost loved ones. My heart is with you during your pain, just as my husband’s heart is with me as I experience my pain.

      1. Deloris Morgan says:

If Hydroco/Acetamin made the list. Add me.

      2. Toni Anderson says:

I am in this catagory and cant get pain meds needed because of what others including Drs have done wrong! Its frustrating and disheartening to say the least. I go through pain all day every day and on occasion have some “better” days but none without pain anymore due to a back injury muscle spasms and fibromyalga.

  9. Gina says:

Im sure I dont qualify, but I was in a mva and was put on everything from morphine patches and morphine er 30 mg and percocet 10, oxycodone 10, 15, 30mg for 5 yrs and then the drs say oh the dea is making the laws to tough I’m retiring. I get a letter 3 days after he is set to retire. The offices are closed. No one will answer the phone. There is a sign on the door with rehab centers that and state funded opioid addiction hotline. Well, I have a 10 y/o daughter and was told I would never walk again with epilepsy and no medical records and legitimate pain and addicted to these pills and no where to turn. I am still without a dr and my quality of life is so depressing all because of the mva for one but the dependency on the pills after the release from the hospital has made me where I feel like I cant do anything without them. I stay in the bed and am now getting to where I cant walk without an assistive device. I knew better but it was so easy to take the pills instead of do the therapy and work through the pain and get it to go away for good. Now I’ve walked on it too long and because of the pills I’ve done too much damage to ever fix it to stop the pain and now I’m screwed all the way around.

  10. Raymond M Bell says:

Because of ocs i had to drop out of college and couldnt hold a job. I dont understand the form in that case. In order to buy my house i had to pay off that college loan. This drug stole 7 years of my life and now my wife and kids suffer because of it. How do i fill out for?
