Following a bankruptcy filing, consumers who were injured by OxyContin or other addictive opioids manufactured by Purdue Pharma may be able to recover compensation.

The claim program benefits individuals who were injured by Purdue opioids such as OxyContin before Sept. 15, 2019, or the families of minors or deceased victims.

In September 2019, Purdue Pharma declared bankruptcy after facing significant liability in OxyContin and opioid addiction lawsuits. Following their bankruptcy filings, Purdue launched a $23.8 million ad campaign in order to advertise a claims program.

Under the claims deal, Purdue will pay to resolve the claims in nearly 3,000 lawsuits alleging that their OxyContin and other opioid products were irresponsibly produced. Allegedly, the company downplayed the risks of their opioids and overstated the benefits.

As a result, hundreds of thousands of people have allegedly died over the past 20 years as part of the opioid epidemic in America.

“A lot of the victims don’t know that they were victimized. They may think that they’re addicts. They may think that they have a moral failing or a character failing,” Ed Neiger, a lawyer for opioid victims, told AP News. “There were people in a boardroom that caused them to become addicted to opioids.”

Although the amount that consumers can collect hasn’t been finalized, compensation may be available to injured parties. A Class Member’s payment will vary depending on the injury they suffered (death, addiction, dependence, lost wages, loss of wages, loss of spousal relationship, etc.).

In order to receive benefits from the settlement, Class Members must file a valid claim form online or through the mail by June 20, 2020. Class Members should include proof of any damages or injuries.

    Well said !
I feel the same way. I have lost everything ! I also have lost my hoe, dreams and self esteem,
I have never been good with words but I have a lot to say. This is a demon I have and still do live with since 1994. My health is gone irreversibly. My role as a mother on this shit only have my son a escape route after Afghanistan. He was a reck of a addict and va kept giving him drugs then he went to heroin. This has permeated every day, every occasion , every hour and every thought. It has affected everything in my life, my heart and my mind. There is no place where it hasn’t mattered ! It all matters.
These Assholes are getting off for nothing ! 8 billion is nothing to them. They could give me a few million and that wouldn’t even come close to restoring what I have lost in these last 26 years.

  2. Patricia says:

Has anyone heard any new information on when or if we get a payout

    1. Crystal says:

Have you heard anything yet? Its February 26, 2021 and I haven;t heard anything, was wondering if you had or not. Thanks

      1. Belew says:

This is likely going to take years to resolve. Currently, “omnibus” hearings are being conducted monthly. At some point over a long period of time, a final settlement will be finalized. Then the plaintiffs will likely appeal that final settlement which will then need to be resolved. Years.

TopClassActions.com is only a third party website for tracking the status of class-action lawsuits. Further, the Purdue case is not a class-action lawsuit, but a bankruptcy filing. If you wish to influence the ability to submit a claim, you need to refer to the PurduePharmaClaims.com website. Please feel free to post your efforts to do so and any subsequent results back here in TopClassActions.com. Thank you.

    1. Crystal says:

I have a claim and David Polk & Wardwell are my attorneys. The last I heard from them was sometime in November 2020 and they sent me a Podcast that said Purdue Had settled and was just waiting on how much each of the victims would get. Not heard anything else, but I am waiting patiently to hear back from my Attorney.

  4. steven Kersh says:

I am late to the claim and wanted to know if i am able to still be abpart of the claim? I lost my father to an opiod overdose. If anyone can help, please reach out to me.

    1. Lisa says:

I filed a claim on behalf of my brother. We filed on time but at that time I did not have all the supporting documentation to include. I have all of that now. Is there a way to add to his claim?

      1. Lori says:

Following this as I too did not have the supporting documents for this claim and I do need to add them.

      2. Jonathan Allen says:

If you filed a timely claim, you can add your documentation by way of amended claim for which they have stated no time limit that I’m aware of. Good Luck

    2. Rodney Austin Damon says:

How do we know if we are getting the settlement or not. These people took away from my lifestyle and I wanna be compensated like 21,000. That’s cheap considering I got 100,000 into this opiate addiction crap

      1. Cassie says:

The firm i hired to represent me has sent emails updating me and 2 days ago I received email stating in 1 to 2 weeks they expect for me to receive info along with ballot to vote

  6. Belew says:

Purdue told Reuters it is nearing a plea deal with the U.S. Department of Justice in connection with the company’s role in the opioid crisis. As a part of the deal, Purdue would plead guilty to the criminal charges against it and resolve billions of dollars in criminal penalties. The plea deal could be unveiled within the next few weeks. Reuters also reported Purdue may be nearing a resolution in civil claims in opioid crisis lawsuits. Purdue declared bankruptcy last year in the face of mounting legal liability.

  7. Concerned Citizen says:

Any idea when the people who were directly effected might get compensated? All these doctors that probably knowingly pushed the drugs are getting paid? What about the ones whos lives were ended or dramatically changed because of Purdue’s drugs?

    1. Linda sue peterson says:

I’ll never be ok. Never.

  8. jeff bruns says:

I just found this. I sure hope its extended. Its not fair, this should have been advertised over and over.

    1. Belew says:

The claims date deadline was 7/30/20. This was advertised extensively on the Internet, print media, and on television. At this point, the only way to extend claims would be a judge to determine the claims process was not fair and needs to be reopened. It is important to note that this is not a class action; this is a bankruptcy filing.

      1. Lisa says:

Hi! We applied on time – on behalf of my brother. At that time I did not have the supporting documentation. I have all of it now. Is there a way that I can add to my brothers claim?

    2. Linda sue peterson says:

      1. Jeffrey Hunter says:

Well said, because if you are not clean, or attempting to be then when the money comes whatever amount it will be the same story, and the same result’s or worse. Praying for you, and that you are done with banging your head. We do recover, I hope you find some, and some peace with it; don’t give up it is a better way to live. You deserve it, you don’t have to run from yourself anymore.

      2. Linda sue peterson says:

How you know that’s what he needs jerk

    2. Lady ZoZo says:

oh, very well said…. and if anyone says that statement isnt 100% correct, well then they live in la-la land too….

  10. Belew says:

There has been a preliminary injunction. Additionally, there are omnibus hearings now scheduled for Sept, Oct, and Nov. Omnibus hearings are typically preliminary in scope. So, as someone astutely stated previously, it will be years before there is anything close to a payout.
