Details: The Hartford Insurance Company of the Midwest class action lawsuit was filed by Winnie Madison and Geraldine Huff on behalf of all insured persons and healthcare providers who either submitted a claim for medical payments coverage or provided medical services to insured persons for the past 20 years. The Hartford Midwest class action lawsuit settlement is $7.5 million for class members and resolves allegations that Hartford and its affiliates improperly charged auto insurance policy holders for medical claims made between January 1, 1990 and April 6, 2010 and paid healthcare providers less than the full amount owed for certain services and equipment in connection with these claims. The incorrect reductions were based on a flawed computerized bill review by Hartford Insurance and its affiliates that improperly determined that the amount of the healthcare provider’s charge exceeded the reasonable price for the healthcare service or equipment in question. Hartford Insurance Company of the Midwest denies that their conduct was improper in any way and have denied all liability.

So what can you get out of the Hartford Midwest Insurance class action lawsuit settlement?

The Hartford class action settlement provides monetary relief to two classes of individuals: those who were insured under Hartford Midwest or one of its affiliates and received a medical bill as the result of an automobile accident, and medical professionals who submitted a medical bill to a Hartford Insurance party during the class period of January 1, 1990 and April 6, 2010.

Here’s what you can expect to receive from the Hartford Midwest class action settlement:

Insured Persons:  If you filed an insurance claim with Hartford Insurance for medical treatment during the class period and either paid all or part of the medical bill owed to your healthcare provider, or received a demand or request for payment for this medical bill but did not pay the healthcare provider, you may be able to receive up to 60% of the amount of the disputed reduction that you paid or were billed for. If you did not reimburse the healthcare provider or did not receive a bill for the medical service, the max you can receive is $10.

Healthcare Providers: If you provided medical treatment or services to a patient insured under a Hartford Midwest Insurance party, and can provide copies of valid medical bills that you sent Hartford under an automobile insurance policy, you can receive a settlement payment of up to 60% of the amount of the disputed reduction that Hartford paid on the bill.
