GUINNESS EXTRA STOUT SETTLEMENT UPDATE:

  • Readers reported this settlement paying out up to $5 as of Feb. 17, 2022.
  • Congratulations to everyone who filed a claim and got PAID!

Certain consumers of Guinness beer may be eligible for a payment of up to $10 without proof of purchase thanks to a class action settlement resolving claims Guinness Extra Stout is actually imported from Canada, not Ireland.

The Class includes anyone who purchased a six-pack or 12-pack of Guinness Extra Stout beer in Massachusetts between Dec. 15, 2011, and Sept. 3, 2015.

Plaintiffs in a class action lawsuit had alleged Guinness Extra Stout beer was labeled and advertised as being produced in and imported from Ireland; however, it actually was produced in and imported from Canada.

The Court has not ruled in favor of either party. Both sides have agreed to the settlement in order to avoid the risk and expense of ongoing litigation.

Guinness Extra Stout is sold worldwide at retailers, restaurants, and bars.

Class Members may submit a claim with or without proof of purchase.

Those who make a claim without proof of purchase must submit an attestation of their purchase of Guinness Extra Stout in Massachusetts during the Class Period, and may qualify for a payment of $0.50 per six-pack (whether purchased as a six-pack or as part of a 12-pack), up to a maximum total payment of $10 per household.

Class Members who submit proof of purchase with their claim will be eligible for $0.50 per six-pack (whether purchased as a six-pack or as part of a 12-pack), up to a maximum of $20 per household.

Payments will not be sent until after the Court grants final approval to the settlement.
