A $2 million Gaia settlement resolved claims the company shared user information without consent.

The settlement class includes all individuals in the United States who, from Sep. 12, 2020, to July 19, 2024, subscribed or otherwise signed up for Gaia’s services and requested or obtained any prerecorded (including on-demand) videos available on Gaia’s websites using a web browser while having a Facebook account.

The class action lawsuit alleges Gaia Inc. violated the Video Privacy Protection Act by disclosing personally identifiable information to Facebook via a tracking pixel.

Gaia Inc. is a subscription-based streaming service that offers a variety of content, including yoga classes, documentaries and other wellness programming.

Gaia hasn’t admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to pay $2 million to resolve the class action lawsuit.

Class members who file a claim may receive an equal portion of the Gaia settlement fund. The amount of the payments to individual class members will depend on the number of valid claims filed. The settlement also requires Gaia to suspend the use of the Facebook tracking pixel on certain pages of the website until it complies with the VPPA.

The deadline for exclusion and objection was Oct. 24, 2024.

The final approval hearing is scheduled to take place on Dec. 9, 2024.

The deadline to file a claim form is Dec. 2, 2024.
