UPDATE:
- The Court granted this settlement final approval Feb. 1, 2022.
- If no appeals are received, the settlement administrator will begin issuing awards.
Apartment applicants in Washington who paid Greystar Real Estate Partners screening fees may be eligible to benefit from a $2.5 million class action settlement.
Anyone who applied to rent any property in Washington state where the rental property, on the date of the application, was owned or managed by the defendants or where the defendants were a landlord of the property as defined by RCW 59.18.030(15), and who paid any tenant screening fee to the defendants or their affiliates between June 9, 2016, and Aug. 13, 2020, is considered part of the Class.
Plaintiffs in a class action lawsuit had accused Greystar of charging tenant screening fees without providing those prospective tenants with the required disclosures in advance; this was allegedly a violation of Washington law.
The defendants deny all allegations of wrongdoing.
Rather than the Court ruling in one party’s favor, both parties have agreed to the settlement to avoid the cost and risk of trial.
Greystar, founded in 1993, operates in more than 150 markets throughout the United States, offering 713,294 units and student beds as of March 2021, according to the company’s website.
Greystar Settlement Benefits
Class Members who submit a valid, timely claim form will receive a portion of the settlement fund after attorneys’ fees, administration costs, and other expenses are deducted.
No final payment estimate is available.
The final hearing in the Greystar settlement will be Jan. 11, 2022.
Those who wish to exclude themselves from or object to the settlement must do so by Sept. 27, 2021.
Claims also must be submitted by Sept. 27, 2021.
Who’s Eligible
Anyone who applied to rent any property in Washington state where the rental property, on the date of the application, was owned or managed by the defendants or where the defendants were a landlord of the property as defined by RCW 59.18.030(15), and who paid any tenant screening fee to the defendants or their affiliates between June 9, 2016, and Aug. 13, 2020, is considered part of the Class.

How and where do I apply?
Does anyone know if there are any lawsuits happening against Greystar in Oregon. This company is buying everything up and still doing the same crap here in Eugene. They really screwed me and now I’m stuck in a lease paying over 300 more in rent because if revolving daily rent change and credit check.
I received monies for the Greystar settlement but can -not cash! No Western Alliance Bank in Seattle
