Subaru’s Starlink Infotainment System Settlement Checks

Consumers who participated in a class action lawsuit against Subaru over claims about its Starlink infotainment system are getting checks in the mail for $150 to resolve the case.

The payments are part of a $6.25 million settlement agreement reached between the plaintiffs and Subaru, although the car maker admits no wrongdoing. According to the class action lawsuit, the Starlink system in some late model Subarus is defective, freezes up and otherwise malfunctions.

Owners and lessees of the following models were eligible to participate in the class action: 2017 Impreza, 2018 Impreza, 2018 Forester, 2018 Outback, 2018 Legacy, 2018 Crosstrek and 2018 BRZ equipped with a Generation 3.0 head unit manufactured by Harman International Industries.

Sterling Infosystems Background Checks Settlement Checks

Checks for $47.98 are being sent out as part of a settlement between a class of consumers and Sterling Infosystems over the company’s allegedly outdated background checks.

Sterling agreed to pay out a total of $15 million to settle the class action lawsuit brought against it by subjects of backgrounds checks it conducted between Dec. 14, 2013 and Dec. 19, 2019.

The company admits no wrongdoing under the terms of the settlement, but was accused of including outdated information in its background check reports.

Plaintiffs claimed the company had violated the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

The Sterling Infosystems Class Action Lawsuit is Gambles v. Sterling Infosystems Inc., Case No. 1:15-cv-09746-PAE, and Merck v. Sterling Infosystems-Ohio Inc., Case No. 1:17-cv-02033-PAE, both in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.

Consumers who participated in a class action lawsuit that claimed Navy Federal Credit Union sent them unsolicited text messages without their permission are getting checks for $505 as part of a recent settlement.

Navy Credit Union admits no wrongdoing, but agreed to pay out a total of $9.25 million to resolve the class action lawsuit against it.

Class Members argued the credit union had violated the federal Telephone Consumer Protection Act by sending text message ads to consumers who were not members of the credit union and had not given their prior approval between Sept. 15, 2015 and March 23, 2020.

The Navy Federal TCPA Class Action Lawsuit is Hawkins v. Navy Federal Credit Union, Case No. 1:19-cv-01186, in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia.

Near East Slack Fill Settlement Checks

The maker of Near East couscous, rice pilaf and quinoa is sending checks for $7.50 each to consumers who participated in a class action lawsuit against it over claims the company underfilled its packages.

Golden Grain Company agreed to pay the consumers to resolve the “slack fill” class action lawsuit, but admit no wrongdoing as part of the deal. The settlement involves accusations that Golden Grain underfilled dozens of varieties of the popular Near East brand of grains, which consumers in California purchased between Oct. 28, 2012 and May 8, 2020.

The Near East Class Action Lawsuit is Brannin v. Golden Grain Company, Case No. CGC-16-555084, in the San Francisco Superior Court, California.
