Rapid Response Marketing, North Star Insurance Advisors and Torchlight Technology Group agreed to a $375,000 settlement to resolve claims they violated telemarketing laws with repeated phone calls. Settlement payments are now in the mail.

The settlement benefits individuals who received a telemarketing call from SBM Communications on behalf of Rapid Response between June 7, 2018, and May 3, 2023.
According to the class action lawsuit, Rapid Response and other companies repeatedly contacted consumers with prerecorded calls as part of a final expense insurance campaign. These calls allegedly violated the federal Telephone Consumer Protection Act.
Under the terms of the settlement, class members could receive an equal share of the net settlement fund. Our readers reportedly received $1,098.54 from the settlement.
The deadline to submit a claim with the settlement was March 26, 2024.
The North Star TCPA class action lawsuit is Abramson v. North Star Insurance Advisors LLC, et al., Case No. 2:22-cv-00827-WSS, in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania.
Capital One data breach class action rebates – second round
A second round of payments are in the mail from a $190 million settlement with Capital One resolving claims the bank failed to protect consumers from a 2019 data breach.

The settlement benefits around 98 million Capital One customers whose information was compromised as part of the 2019 data breach.
The data breach class action lawsuit claims Capital One failed to prevent a massive data breach. The cybersecurity incident allegedly exposed the information of millions of customers, including their Social Security numbers.
Class members received thousands of dollars in initial payments in 2023. Now, the settlement administrator sent an additional round of payments with residual settlement funds. One viewer reportedly received $34.22 from this second payment round.
The deadline to submit a claim with the settlement was Sept. 30, 2022.

Freedom Financial TCPA settlement checks – second round
Top Class Actions readers report a second round of checks in the mail from a $9.75 million TCPA settlement with Freedom Financial Network and Freedom Debt Relief.

The settlement benefits individuals who received telemarketing calls from Freedom Financial network or Freedom Debt Relief using an artificial or prerecorded voice between May 17, 2017, and April 17, 2018.
According to plaintiffs in the class action lawsuit, Freedom Financial violated the TCPA by repeatedly contacting consumers with telemarketing calls they did not consent to. In some cases, the companies allegedly contacted consumers whose numbers were already on the National Do Not Call Registry.
Under the terms of the settlement, class members could receive an equal share of the net settlement fund with larger payments for those whose numbers were registered on the National Do Not Call Registry. Following an initial round of payments of up to $233.55 in April 2024, readers report receiving a second round of payments of $27.70 from the settlement.
The deadline to submit a claim with the settlement was Nov. 25, 2023.

Western Union fraud remission payments – second round
A second phase of checks is on the way from an FTC lawsuit with Western Union resolving wire fraud allegations.



This round of remission payments benefits victims of Western Union’s wire fraud scheme between Jan. 1, 2004, and Jan. 19, 2017.
The FTC claims Western Union aided and abetted wire fraud schemes perpetrated by fraudsters. These schemers allegedly posed as family members, lotteries and love interests to trick consumers into sending their money via Western Union.
Western Union agreed to pay $586 million to resolve the FTC lawsuit. The first phase of remission payments returned $366 to affected consumers. Now, a second round of payments returns additional funds to consumers based on the damages they sustained and the amount they have already recovered in Phase One. Our readers report receiving payments of up to $700 from Phase Two.
The deadline to submit a claim with the settlement was Aug. 31, 2022.
The Western Union fraud lawsuit is United States of America v. The Western Union Company, Case No. 1:17-cv-00011-CCC, in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania.
1-800 Contacts settlement checks – third round
Top Class Actions readers report receiving a third round of checks from a $40 million 1-800 Contacts settlement resolving antitrust allegations.

The settlement benefits individuals who made at least one online purchase of contact lenses from various retailers in date ranges including:
- 1-800 from Jan. 1, 2004, to Sept. 12, 2019
- Vision Direct, Inc., Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc. and Walgreen Co. from Jan. 1, 2004, to Sept. 12, 2019
- Arlington Contact Lens Service Inc. or National Vision Inc. from March 10, 2010, to Sept. 19, 2017
- Luxottica of America Inc. from Dec. 23, 2013, to July 5, 2019
Plaintiffs in the class action lawsuit accused 1-800 Contacts and other contact manufacturers of conspiring illegal antitrust agreements that limited competition in online advertising. This agreement allegedly prevented consumers from finding the best possible deals when shopping online for contacts.
The contact companies agreed to pay $40 million to resolve the antitrust class action lawsuit. The first round of payments returned more than $800 to claimants in September 2021. A second round of payments returned an additional $11 in November 2022. Now, our readers report receiving a third round of payments of up to $153.02 from the settlement.
The deadline to submit a claim with the settlement was Dec. 4, 2020.
The 1-800 Contacts class action lawsuit is Thompson v. 1-800 Contacts Inc., et al., Case No. 2:16-cv-01183, in the U.S. District Court for the District of Utah.
Panera delivery fees class action rebates
Our viewers report checks in the mail from a $2 million Panera Bread settlement resolving claims that it deceptively advertised its delivery fees and menu prices.

The settlement benefits consumers who placed an order for delivery on the Panera app or the Panera website between Oct. 1, 2020, and Aug. 31, 2021.
According to the class action lawsuit, Panera misled consumers about what they would pay for delivery orders. The restaurant chain allegedly inflated delivery fees and menu prices above the expected costs.
Panera agreed to pay $2 million to resolve the false advertising class action lawsuit. Under the terms of the settlement, class members could receive up to $19 in vouchers or up to $12 in cash payments. Readers who opted for the cash payment option reportedly received $10.16.
The deadline to submit a claim with the settlement was June 10, 2024.
