The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) sent a refund payment to thousands of consumers in November.
FTC v. Agora Financial Refunds
About 35,000 people will receive a total of more than $2 million thanks to an FTC settlement.
Consumers who purchased “The Doctor’s Guide to Reversing Diabetes in 28 Days” and “Congress’ Secret $1.17 Trillion Giveaway” from Agora Financial and NewMarket Health were eligible to receive the refund payment.
The publishers allegedly falsely promised “Congress’ Secret $1.17 Trillion Giveaway” would show individuals how to claim money from the government, while “The Doctor’s Guide to Reversing Diabetes in 28 Days” contained a cure for type 2 diabetes.
Checks must be cashed within 90 days, while PayPal payments must be accepted within 30 days.

Amazon Flex Drivers Receive Refund Payment from FTC
Payments totaling nearly $60 million are making their way to 140,000 Amazon Flex drivers from whom Amazon withheld their tips between 2016 and 2019.
The FTC filed a lawsuit claiming Amazon secretly kept drivers’ tips during that period, and that the company only stopped the practice after becoming aware in 2019 that the FTC was investigating.
Checks must be chased before Jan. 7, 2022.
PayPal payments must be accepted within 30 days.
Those who receive a refund payment of $600 or more will receive a 1099 tax form with the payment; the income should be reported on your 2021 tax return.

Student Loan Debt Relief FTC Refunds
A second round of checks is going out to more than 31,000 individuals who paid EZ Doc Preps and other defendants for help with student loan debt but did not receive any relief.
The FTC alleged EZ Doc Preps and other defendants pretended to be affiliated with the U.S. Department of Education or loan servicers and falsely claimed those who paid upfront would receive permanently redacted monthly payments or loan forgiveness.
The initial refund payments were sent out in September 2019. However, because the FTC recovered additional funds from the defendants, the agency is sending out a second round of payments totaling $958,675 to those who cashed their first check.
The FTC asks that checks be cashed within 90 days.
Anyone with questions should contact refund administrator Analytics Consulting at 1-877-270-967.
NetSpend FTC Refund Payment
The FTC has issued $953,000 in PayPal payments to more than 33,000 NetSpend customers thanks to a 2017 settlement.
The FTC claimed NetSpend customers were not able to access funds either because NetSpend denied or delayed their card activation or because the company blocked them from using the card.
A first round of payments worth a total of $10 million was sent to more than 430,000 people in September 2018. The FTC is now sending PayPal payments to those who did not cash that check and have a valid email address on file.
PayPal payments must be accepted within 30 days.
Those who do not have a PayPal account and would prefer a check should call 1-888-684-4858.
Questions about this refund payment should be directed to Analytics Consulting at 1-888-684-4858.
