$1T Class Action Lawsuit Alleges Trump Caused COVID Deaths

A New Jersey man has filed a $1 trillion class action lawsuit accusing former President Donald Trump of failing to protect Americans from excess deaths due to the COVID-19 epidemic

Lead plaintiff, Arnett Thomas, and others filed the nationwide class action lawsuit in New Jersey federal court on behalf of those who died of COVID-19 and their loved ones, as well as those who contracted the virus and suffered financial, social, and other damages from the pandemic. Thomas claims that the former president forced Americans unwittingly into an experiment with herd immunity as coronavirus began to spread across the country in early 2020.

Thomas accuses Trump of violating Americans’ rights to due process under the Constitution by embarking on this alleged experiment.

“I think Americans had the right to opt-in or out in being used in that experiment,” Thomas told NorthJersey.com in an interview Wednesday about his class action. “Hundreds of thousands died because of that experiment and millions contracted the disease.”

The complaint states that “former President Donald Trump [,] handled and controlled COVID-19, through his Corna Virus Taskforce, headed by his Vice President Mike Pence, with such negligence, that his management of the Pandemic was criminal.”

Trump, claims the class action, was aware of the need for a nationwide lockdown in response to the spreading disease; however, the former president allegedly decided to resist these calls, instead, hoping his herd immunity experiment would help him win the November election.

The lawsuit accuses the former president of becoming “the very domestic enemy to the Constitution he swore to defend.” Specifically, Thomas claims that Trump allocated minimal federal resources to states to combat the pandemic and, in certain circumstances, “intentionally and maliciously” withheld funding from state governors.

In addition to allegations referring to other controversial statements made by the former president, as well as the riot at the Capitol Building on Jan. 6, Thomas claims that Trump unleashed a natural herd immunity experiment on the United States. This alleged experiment “would contribute to five million reported COVID-19 cases and five hundred thousand deaths,” states the complaint.

Thomas points out in his class action lawsuit other diseases that populations could not overcome using so-called natural herd immunity, including polio, smallpox, and tuberculosis. Thomas says that Trump’s alleged foray into herd immunity against coronavirus not only needlessly put lives at risk, it also resulted in nationwide lockdowns on schools and businesses, resulting in severe damage to the economy.

In addition to $1 trillion in damages, the class action also demands action from Congress in the form of legislation that would not allow this type of situation to happen again.
