Hertz PlatePass class action settlementDetails on how to file a claim for the Hertz PlatePass class action lawsuit settlement are here! If you rented a vehicle from Hertz between July 1, 2006 and March 31, 2010 and paid for charges related to the PlatePass electronic toll payment service, you may be entitled to a cash refund from the class action settlement.

The Hertz PlatePass settlement will resolve a class action lawsuit (Doherty v. The Hertz Corp., et al.) that alleges Hertz did not adequately disclose PlatePass-related charges to customers, including that they would have to pay a service fee for each day they rented a car containing the electronic toll system, even when they didn’t use it.

Hertz denies any wrongdoing but has agreed to refund customers through an $11 million class action lawsuit settlement.

Class Members who submit a valid Claim Form will receive a refund of certain percentages of the PlatePass-related charges they paid during the Class Period:

  • Each eligible Class Member may be entitled to receive a refund of 67 percent of the PlatePass-Related Charges (defined below) paid for his or her first use of PlatePass while renting a vehicle from Hertz during the Class Period.
  • Each eligible Class Member may be entitled to receive a refund of 38 percent of the PlatePass-Related Charges (defined below) for his or her subsequent uses of PlatePass while renting a vehicle from Hertz during the Claims Period.

“PlatePass-Related Charges” mean PlatePass Service Fees, formerly known as administrative fees, and any PlatePass-Related Toll Differentials, meaning the difference between a toll charged to the Class Member and the amount paid to the toll authority, if the toll amount charged to the Class Member was greater than what ATS paid to the toll authority.

The only way to receive a refund through the Hertz class action settlement is to submit a valid Claim Form on or before 11:59 p.m. EST on November 21, 2013.

Claim Forms and more information on your rights in the Hertz PlatePass Class Action Lawsuit Settlement can be found at www.HertzPlatePassSettlement.com.

The case is Doherty et al. v. The Hertz Corp. et al., Case No. 10-cv-00359, in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey.
