Did you make an in-store purchase at an ALDO Shoes retail store in Illinois? You may qualify to join a class action investigation into claims that store receipts illegally showed private debit/credit information that put customers at risk for identity theft.

The retail chain, which sells men’s and women’s shoes, boots and accessories, is alleged to have broken a U.S. law designed to prevent and mitigate identity theft called the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act (FACTA).

Do you qualify?

If you made a purchase at an ALDO Shoes store in Illinois from September 1, 2023, to January 31, 2024, you may qualify for compensation if your receipt showed too many digits of your debit or credit card account. You do not need to have your paper receipt to qualify for this investigation. A credit card or bank statement showing the purchase(s) will do. Also, you may be compensated whether or not your improper receipt led to fraud.

Please fill out the form on this page for more information.

What is FACTA?

Under the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act (FACTA), vendors can print only the last five digits of a credit or debit card number on a receipt, and cannot include any portion of the card’s expiration date. FACTA also covers prepaid debit cards and EBT cards.

The purpose of FACTA, passed by Congress in 2003 as an amendment of the Fair Credit Reporting Act, was to prevent thieves from breaking into your accounts to make purchases or otherwise steal your money. With your name and even just one account number, criminals can steal your identity, destroy your financial reputation, cut off your credit, and destroy your credit score.

The idea behind the act is to make it harder for criminals to latch on to you by making it much harder to discern your account numbers, even if you left the receipt behind, or lost it.

What should you do if your ALDO receipts violated FACTA?

If you made an ALDO Shoes purchase during this time period, fill out the form on this page to see if you qualify to join this class action lawsuit investigation. You may be compensated whether or not your improper receipt led to fraud.

You should also keep an eye out for identity theft. If ALDO put your card information at risk:

  • Request and review your free credit reports at Freecreditreport.com.
  • Set up free fraud alerts from the three nationwide credit bureaus — Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion.
  • Change your passwords.
  • Stay alert for changes in your bank and other accounts.
  • You may want to freeze your credit and debit cards.
  • You may want to seek legal counsel to bring the matter to the attention of the court and to seek proper and full compensation.
