Trader Joe’s candles recall overview:

  • Who: Trader Joe’s is recalling about 653,000 Mango Tangerine scented candles.
  • Why: The candles pose a fire and burn risk.
  • Where: The recall is active in the United States.

A fruit-scented candle sold at Trader Joe’s nationwide has been recalled due to multiple reports of the candles posing a fire hazard, and in some cases causing burns.

The recall was published to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission website on Aug. 15. It applies to about 653,000 Trader Joe’s Mango Tangerine Scented Candles with SKU 56879.

According to the recall, the candle flame can spread from the wick to the wax causing a larger than expected flame, posing a fire hazard.

So far, the supermarket chain has received 14 reports of incidents involving high flames with the recalled candles, including three reports of minor property damage and two reports of minor burns, it said.

Full refund available for recalled Trader Joe’s candles

The recalled candles were sold at Trader Joe’s stores nationwide in June 2024 for about $4.

The candles are white colored wax with a cotton wick in a tin container. They weigh about 5.7 ounces, and SKU number 56879 is located on the bottom of the tin container.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled Mango Tangerine Scented Candles and return the candle to any Trader Joe’s store for a full cash refund of $4, the recall says.

Alternatively, consumers can complete this Product Feedback Form to receive a $4 Trader Joe’s gift card by mail, the company said. Consumers will receive a response from Customer Relations requesting a receipt or a photo of the candle, it added.

In April 2023, Trader Joe’s recalled its Infinite Herbs Organic Basil over concerns the product may have the potential to be contaminated with salmonella.
