Were You Affected by the U by Kotex Sleek Tampons Recall?Kimberly-Clark, the maker of Kotex tampons, has issued a U by Kotex Sleek Tampons recall for Regular Absorbency tampons that were manufactured and sold between October 2016 and October 2018, over claims that the tampons unravel during use.

Some users have claimed that that the tampons not only unravel, but leave pieces of the tampons behind in a user’s body that can be hard to remove without medical help, or may go unnoticed by a user for a period of time. This problem can allegedly cause infection, vaginal irritation, and localized vaginal injury among other injuries.

Kimberly-Clark issued the voluntary recall of some of their U by Kotex Tampons, Regular Absorbency on Dec. 11, 2018. The recall was announced after the company had received numerous reports of the tampons unraveling inside a user’s body when they tried to remove them.

The tampons at issue were manufactured between Oct. 7, 2016 and Oct. 16, 2018 and were distributed between Oct. 17, 2016 and Oct. 23, 2018. These tampons were distributed throughout the United States and Canada.

Not all U by Kotex Sleek tampons were included in the U by Kotex Sleek Tampons recall. The Super Absorbency and Super Plus Absorbency tampons were not included in the recall, and there have been no reports of the defect in those variety of tampons.

With the recall announcement, Kimberly-Clark did not address what the cause of the unraveling problem may be or the number of tampons affected.

Happily, defects like this one are uncommon, and tampons are usually quite safe to use. Dr. Jill Maura Rabin, professor of obstetrics and gynecology at the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Nothwell, told The New York Times that tampon users should not panic over the recall. She says that in her 33 years of practicing medicine, she has never heard of a tampon unraveling.

According to Rabin, the U by Kotex Sleep Tampons is not a “call to stop using tampons.” She does say that people need to know their body, so they can determine if something is wrong.

Some people may not know that something has gone wrong with their tampon, but if something does feel wrong and they did purchase tampons included in the U by Kotex Sleek Tampons recall, people may need to seek medical attention.

The recall could lead to legal claims against Kimberly-Clark, adding to a number of lawsuits already pending against that company. Consumers are challenging the company’s marketing of Huggies diapers, and the company recently settled claims that its Charmin Flushable Wipes are not really flushable.

People who did experience problems with the recalled tampons may be able to file a legal claim and seek compensation over the U by Kotex Sleek Tampons recall, that could compensate them for financial injury caused by purchasing defective tampons, and that could compensate them for physical injury that may have been caused by having a piece of tampon left in their body.

Add me! They are the only tampons I’ve ever used since starting menstruation in 2010. This cycle is the first time im going to try all natural tampons because I hated how these made me feel. I thought them falling apart was normal since I knew nothing else!
