Bonnie J. is the latest plaintiff to file a shingles vaccine and eye problems lawsuit alleging that the manufacturers of Zostavax failed to warn the medical community and the public about the dangers of developing severe side effects.
Many consumers have already come forward to allege a connection between the Zostavax shingles vaccine and the development of shingles itself.
However, more patients are now arguing that the shingles vaccine and eye problems is another troubling connection about which the public is not aware.
These shingles vaccine and eye problems lawsuit shared that FDA approval was obtained for the Zostavax vaccine in May 2006, largely based on the results of a study completed by manufacturer, Merck, called the shingles prevention study.
The study’s results were published in the New England Journal of Medicine in 2005. Since the publication of that journal study, however, as pointed out in the shingles vaccine and eye problems lawsuit, numerous different risks have been presented and patients have become the subject of complaints and even lawsuits.
The plaintiff in the shingles vaccine and eye problems lawsuit is a resident of Washington and received the Zostavax vaccine in May 2017. Shortly after receiving the vaccine, the plaintiff suffered serious side effects, including inflammation, right eye pain, blurred vision, visual field loss and redness, all of which ultimately led to surgical intervention.
As outlined in the shingles vaccine and eye problems lawsuit, the plaintiff was diagnosed with recurrent acute iritis and mixed mechanism glaucoma.
The shingles vaccine and eye problems lawsuit says that, as a result of the side effects in the defective Zostavax vaccine, the plaintiff has experienced physical limitations that were not expressed in the warning label or patient information sheet provided at the time of the Zostavax vaccine.
The shingles vaccine and eye problems lawsuit says that the wrongful conduct of Merck in failing to warn the public or medical community about these problems led to incurable, serious, progressive and permanent injuries, in addition to loss of enjoyment of life, mental anguish, pain and suffering, physical impairment and injury.
The plaintiff in the shingles vaccine and eye problems lawsuit also alleges that she has sustained significant medical expenses and other problems directly because of the eye conditions.
The lawsuit argues that Merck failed to exercise appropriate care in the labeling of the shingles vaccine and did not issue appropriate warnings about the dangers of viral infection and serious bodily injury that could result from its use.
The lawsuit also alleges that the manufacturers continued promoting the vaccine despite the knowledge that it could cause significant issues.
Other patients who have had eye problems after getting the shingles vaccine should report these side effects to their doctor immediately in case the two events are related. Many side effects have been reported by those who get the shingles vaccine.
The Shingles Vaccine and Eye Problems Lawsuit is Case No. 2:18-CV-05426-HB, in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
