Frontier Airlines misleads consumers into believing they are purchasing lower-priced airfare than they actually are and isn’t upfront about its bag fees, a new class action lawsuit alleges.

Plaintiff Amira Hamad claims Frontier “makes up whatever discount it purports” by hitting its customers with “fraudulent and unwarranted charges” related to fees for personal items and checked and carry-on bags.

“FRONTIER’s bait-and-switch and ‘gotcha’ tactics are designed to confuse, trick, and trap consumers to the public’s detriment,” the Frontier class action states.

Hamad wants to represent a nationwide class of consumers.

Frontier intentionally hides bag fees, other charges from consumers, class action says

Hamad argues Frontier “does not make its fee structure clear” to its customers at the time they purchase tickets, and that it is even more unclear when a purchase is made with a third-party vendor.

Further, Frontier is accused of intentionally hiding fees from consumers as a way to “fraudulently induce sales.”

“FRONTIER’s fees are not conspicuously shown on its website or on the websites of third-party vendors, and consumers are often unaware of FRONTIER’s large and plentiful fees until after they purchase a ticket that initially appeared attractive,” the Frontier class action states.

Hamad claims Frontier is guilty of breach of contract and fraudulent misrepresentation, under Florida common law, and of violating the Florida Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act and Florida laws regarding misleading advertising.

Plaintiff is demanding a jury trial and requesting declaratory relief along with an award of actual and punitive damages for herself and all class members.

In another case involving a company called Frontier, a class action lawsuit was filed against Frontier Communications in 2020 by a consumer arguing the cable company charges more than what its customers agreed to pay for its services.

    1. Ernest says:

I was defrauded and basically extorted by frontier airlines when my carry on bag easily fit their measuring device , but the evil $ grubbing Frontier check in agents – who are paid an extra bonus ” bounty” folks for charging customers extra for baggage carry on by claiming their carry on its too large,! LIED and said I woukd have to pay more! They lied ,they knew they were lying ,and I witnessed several customers who were victimized this way and were basically held hostage by forcing them to pay OR ELSE they would not board and thus be stranded at a strange airport! This is criminal extortion ,imo. Shocking monsters !

      1. Marjorie Williams says:

I had the same experience. Carried the same bag all the time Duffy this person told me my bag was too big and I had to pay $90 at the gate.

  2. DeBorah says:

I purchased the fly all summer for $600. Did that happen NO. You try & book a flight somewhere and the fly all summer fare is NEVER available. You have to pay for a regular flight, plus, baggage and a seat, both coming and going. That’s $600 I could have used to buy a flight or two on another airline.

  3. Leone R. Lettsome says:

Ohhhi do I have some stories…like them making pay for a bag for a flight they knew I wasn’t gonna be able to get on. I want join

  4. Roger Mahon says:

I’ve flown Frontier for several years and never had an issue. I just flew from New York to Orlando for a round trip price of $28.50. I don’t check a bag nor pay for a carryon but bring a proper size personal item. Of people paid more attention to the various additional fees as rhey are booking their ticket online, they might enjoy the same experice as I have for years. All the additional fees for baggage and seat selection ae clearly shown before your booking is finalized and you pay. There is a reason why Frontier flights are so popular, the ultra low fares that get you a seat on the planr and one free personal item. If you want to add on options, you pay for them. Very simple.!

      Never again!

  5. Rosie Alexich says:

Frontier Airline is a scam, I bought 2 tickets from Ontario to San Francisco round trip, it says they won’t charge for carry on, the moment that I talked to the person in the counter they charge $80 for the carry on plus $25 because I spoke to someone from frontier, do they are liars that wants to take advantage of each customer, I thought that I found a good deal for the tickets but I ended up pay $400 round trip for all the fees they charged me and my 12 years old, plus u need to pay for the seat.
I could go by Southwest would be a lot cheaper.
I will never use this Airline again never ever.
    They are scammers

    1. Karen says:

You do not have to pay for a seat on Frontier if you let them select it for you. My husband and I are always seated together.

  6. Kim says:

I purchased tickets from Frontier in August and March. They charged me 25 per person because they said that we had to check iin online. We tried to early check in but the system had a glitch. My son was at the counter next to me and his agent waived the fee. They also made me pay for my purse as a carry on 75. The agent was rude and I am disabled. I waited 45 minutes for a wheel chair and almost missed my flight. I tried calling customer service, I have left email, written letter and still no response. I would Never recommend them to anyone. After all the extra charges you may as well have flew another air lines and paid the extra money just for comfort and peace. A $97 flight ended up over $400 in extra fees. There customer service is the Worst in the world

  7. Felix Femi says:

Frontier Airlines uses a very offensive low price bait to lure the unsuspecting public. It’s not a customer friendly Airline as it charges heavily on bags and will not allow any opportunity for anyone to enjoy the smallest of luggage. I’m definitely never going to use this airline again.

  8. Lorabelle Sundown says:

    1. Natalie Johnson says:

Yes, I just purchased a flight to Puerto Rico and Frontier overcharged me.

  10. Ritu Chandra says:

Frontier Airlines is the biggest fraud.
We bought two GoWild passes- cannot find a single flight out of Atlanta/ any day, anywhere on which pass holders are not blocked out.
I would like to join the class action suit.

    1. Purtispoole says:

      Yes

    2. Roger Mahon says:

Did you read rhe terms and conditions of your pass, in that you can only book domestic travel seats the day before you plan to travel? Go Wild fares will appear blocked out for all days except the day before a flight when Go Wild seats are available, and I’ve found tons of free seats. I just flew to Orlando with a Go Wild seat… final cost was $14.25
